The Hollywood live-action adaptation of “One Piece” will be a 10 episode long series distributed worldwide exclusively on Netflix. It has also been announced that the creator, Oda Eiichiro, will be participating as an executive producer. We have included his comments on the project at the end of the article below.
The live-action series had been announced at the “ONE PIECE” 20th Anniversary Press Conference held in Jul. 2017. The project has been in progress since then.
The series will be produced through a partnership between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, who are also known for producing the live-action adaptation of “Cowboy Bebop,” as well as Shueisha, the publisher of the original manga which the series will be based on. All 10 episodes of the Netflix original series “ONE PIECE” will be exclusively distributed worldwide through its video streaming service.
Additionally, a new addition to the production team has been revealed, with Oda Eiichiro serving as an executive producer on the show.
In the past, there had been a lot of offers for a live-action adaptation of “One Piece”, and this project had only been greenlit after Oda and the editorial department at “Weekly Shonen Jump” had been convinced that it'd be able to overcome various hurdles in production. This follow-up report is sure to draw together the enthusiasm and expectations of fans from all over the world.
