The live-action film adaption of “Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou”, a comedy manga serialized in “Shonen Jump＋”, will be released on Jun. 19, 2020. Along with the announcement, a “special original illustration” by the manga illustrator Koyama Yujirou, inspired by the young talented actor who will be playing the role of Agetarou, was released.
“Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou” is originally a web manga serialized in “Shonen Jump＋” from 2014 to 2017, written by Iipyao, illustrated by Koyama Yuujirou. It became an anime in Apr. 2016, and it was announced to have the first live-action film adaption from “Shonen Jump＋” in 2017.
The story is set at an old Tonkatsu shop in Shibuya, Tokyo. The protagonist, Katsumata Agetarou, is the heir of the family business and was living a cabbage-shredding life under the supervision of his father, Agesaku.
One day, Agetarou delivers Bentos to a nightclub in Shibuya. The vibes and music of the dance floor gave him an uprising boost he had never felt before. Agetarou, being the impulsive person he is, decides to become “Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou”, and raise the heat of both the fryer and the dance floor.
However, having never touched any pork nor DJ equipment, he has a long way to achieve his goals. Can he get through all the troubles of misunderstandings and predestined encounters with his vigor to become the “Tonkatsu DJ”?
The production is by Fuji TV, known for its works on hit comedy movies such as; “Tonde Saitama” (Fly me to Saitama), “The Confidence Man JP: The Movie”, and “Hit Me Anyone One More Time”, and the distribution will be by Warner Bros., that lead many movies from “Weekly Shonen Jump” to a hit such as; “Rurouni Kenshin” series, “Gintama” series.
A “special original illustration” by the manga illustrator, Koyama, to express his joy of the live-action film adaption was also revealed. The illustration is inspired by the young talented actor who will be playing the role of Agetarou in the movie.
The other cast and the director are scheduled to be announced on Jan. 29, the day of Niku (meat).
The live-action film “Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou” will be in theaters nationwide from Jun. 19, 2020.

The impossible live-action “Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou” will finally be released after being cured for over 3 years. We have our reasons for the long wait.
I really wanted to bring together the best team of cast, director, and staff, but the popular ones are always busy. I almost gave up. It was a miracle that everyone's schedules matched perfectly! I felt it was fate that the release became 2020, the year of the Tokyo Olympics, with so much attention gathered from the world.
The main lead is that person from the recent hit movie. It will be his first challenge in a comedy film.
The other cast joining him are; the young actress with over a million followers on social media, the young actor who is rising in popularity from the popular TV series, and that person from the hit comedy film from last year.
The actors and directors that bear the future of the Japanese film industry come together!
