“Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Anime Broadcast: ‘Super Kinnikuman Exhibition’,” an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the anime broadcast of the comic “Kinnikuman” will be held at Tokyo Tower from March 18, 2023. A promotional video has been released.
“Kinnikuman” is a martial arts comic written by Yudetamago and serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from 1979, and its anime broadcast began in April 1983. In addition to the special moves and fierce battles performed by the main character Kinnikuman and other unique superheroes, its charm is its gag elements and the friendships that develop beyond the battle. Its popularity has accelerated along with the anime broadcast, and sparked a movement in various genres, including music and toys such as the “Kinkeshi.”
The promotional video begins with a cutaway shot of the KIN mark, the symbol of the Kinniku Clan, gradually appearing amidst a solemn atmosphere of flying sparks. Then, the phrase “If you don’t have love in your heart, you are not a superhero,” which even those who do not know much about “Kinnikuman” have heard before, is shown.
At the same time, voice actor Tachiki Fumihiko, well-known for his narration of the opening videos of martial arts competitions, reads the script by putting tension and realism, as if a fight is about to begin. With the sound of the gong, famous scenes from the anime also appear, leading us at once into the world of Kinnikuman and the exhibition.
“Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Anime Broadcast: ‘Super Kinnikuman Exhibition’” will be held from March 18 to April 2 at “Tower Hall” on the B1 floor of Tokyo Tower Foot Town. Visit the exhibition to experience the legacy of the superheroes for yourself.
