“ONE PIECE” is a marine adventure based on a shonen manga written by Oda Eiichiro that has been serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” since July 1997. It is a popular work that has spawned numerous cross-media contents and products, with events being held one after another.. In 2021, the anime reached 1,000 episodes, and the comic released its 100th volume, and on July 22, 2022, the series celebrated its 25th anniversary. “ONE PIECE FILM RED” is its latest film, released on August 6, 2022, which depicts a story that begins with the shocking revelation that the world’s most beloved singer, Uta, is the daughter of Shanks.
The film, which opened on August 6, 2022, got off to a rocket start, drawing 1.57 million people and grossing over 2.25 billion yen in the first two days. On August 25, the 20th day of its release, the film reached the 10 billion yen mark at the box office. Since then, it kept breaking records and became the No. 1 box office hit in 2022. Since the film had been attracting numerous moviegoers during the winter vacation, the box office surpassed 19 billion yen, and the attendance exceeded 13.79 million people 157 days after its opening.
Oda, the author of the comic “ONE PIECE,” disclosed an illustration of Zoro and Sanji, the inseparable pair of Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, to celebrate the box office hitting 19 billion yen. The illustrations of the two, whose dialogue in the film was a hot topic among the audience, are a must-see for the fans.
The movie is also distributing an illustration of Uta wearing a furisode kimono titled “UTA HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023,” which Oda has newly drawn to the moviegoers since January 1.
