“Ryoma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis” stage greeting event was held on September 18 at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo.
In addition to Konomi Takeshi (author) and Minagawa Junko (Echizen Ryoma), Matsuyama Takashi (Echizen Nanjiro), Takahashi Mikako (Ryuzaki Sakuno), Takeuchi Shunsuke (Boo), and Takeuchi Ryota (Foo) appeared on the stage. The official supporting member and MC Yonsentoshin recreated the rap battle from the movie scene and made the audience burst into laughter.
Matsuyama revealed his true thought on the role of young Nanjiro in the movie, that “I first thought that the role of young Nanjiro doesn’t match with me, but now I think it turned out to be OK” but he seemed to have received endorsement, “Konomi-san told me, ’Nanjiro can only be played by you, Matsuyama-san!’ I am very thankful of him”.
On the other hand, Takahashi commented and thanked on Sakuno, who had the opportunity to get closer with Ryoma in the movie, “I thought they (Ryoma and Sakuno) are the wonderful couple. Thank you so much for producing multiple scenes of Sakuno with Ryoma”. Minagawa replied after listening to Matsuyama and Takahashi’s comments, “Ryoma is a middle school student, which many people can forget easily. This movie told that Ryoma has a mentality of his age”. She said that she could felt that from his relationships with Nanjiro and Sakuno.
This was the first “Prince of Tennis” opportunity for Takeuchi (Shunsuke) and Takeuchi (Ryota). When they are asked their thoughts, Takeuchi (Shunsuke) replied first that, “This anime was on air when I was small, so I was uncertain how I should react to the passion of long-loved series, but first of all, the setting of ‘tennis gang’ was very appealing”. Takeuchi (Ryota) then followed, “the memorable phrase of ‘tennis gang’, a rap music, and the fact that I got the opportunity to appear in ‘Prince of Tennis’ series made me really happy”.
At this point the message movie of Sugita Tomokazu, who played Wolf (older brotherhood of Boo/Takeuchi Ryota and Foo/Takeuchi Shunsuke. Sugita apologized, “I am very sorry that I could not be there”, then he continued with humorous comments, “While talking like this, ‘I just got urge to go there, so I will !’ and appear from the back door. This is unlikely to happen, so please forget about me, and continue the event”.
Sugita then described about Wolf, “I first started with rap. I created the character image from his lines found in the rap music. Wolf is not a simple gang, as the movie shows. He has kind eyes, if you closely look at the poster. I first thought he was wearing the sunglasses because he wants to hide his eyes…” and showed that his eyes are his points.
The MC Goto Takumi (from the comedian group Yonsentoshin) started saying “I want to rap” in the middle of the event. Goto said that he “loved Wolf, Boo, Foo, and Ryoma’s rap battle the most” and asked to evaluate the reproduction of the scene to two Takeuchis.
The rap battle started with Minagawa’s “Okay, why don’t all 3 come together? I will teach you what tennis is” (the line from the movie). There was a big round of applause from the audience, but Takeuchi (Shunsuke) and Takeuchi (Ryota) gave him strict evaluation, 2 points out of 100 points.
Konomi summarized the event by saying, “This movie contains the love from all people who were involved in ‘Prince of Tennis’ series. Please laugh, cry, and leave the theater with the best condition”. The event ended with a great round of applause.
