Oct. 5 is Ono Kenshou’s birthday.

Ono Kenshou started his career as an actor in his childhood. He has been playing many roles in anime and movies, including the role of Harry Potter in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. In 2020, he played the main characters in various TV anime and online-streaming works, including “Taiso Samurai”, “Uchitama?! Have you seen my Tama?”, and “A Whisker Away”.

To celebrate his birthday, a readers survey titled, “Who is your favorite character voiced by Ono Kenshou?” as one we conducted last year. The survey had been conducted from Sep. 20 to Sep. 27, and we received 144 answers.
The male-to-female ratio was about 20% to 80%, which means that the female readers accounted for a large percentage. About 55% of the readers were minors, 25% were in their twenties, which means that the young readers accounted for a large percentage.

1st place went to Kuroko Tetsuya in “Kuroko’s Basketball” with about 23% support ratings. The ranking has gone to 1st although it was placed at 2nd last year.

‘He is a visionary 6th man, working behind the scenes to support the other members. Tetsu-kun’s calm voice is perfect for the role!’ ‘He doesn’t have much of a presence, being poker-faced, laid-back, polite, and quiet, but he is full of fighting spirit, stubborn, and competitive. I like the gap.’ As these comments show, he is a player dedicated to supporting behind the scenes (‘Kuroko ni Tessuru’ in Japanese) just as his name. Other comments have also arrived such as ‘He also handled the theme song and inserted songs. I was attracted to his singing voice.’

2nd place
2nd place went to Akutagawa Ryunosuke in “Bungo Stray Dogs” with about 15% support ratings. The ranking has gone to 2nd although it was placed at 3rd last year.

‘The cool and low voice is truly amazing, which is different from the roles that Kensho-san has ever played.’ ‘He is amazing as he also recreates Akutagawa-san’s feelings, and weaknesses as well as strengths!’ As these comments show, he played a member of Port Mafia, who is opposed to the protagonist. His unusual aspects also attract the fans as the comment below. ‘He usually looks cold-hearted, but he becomes honest in front of Dazai-san, which is cute! His unique cough is also memorable.’

3rd place went to Nanase Riku in “Idolish7” with about 12% support ratings. The ranking has kept top 3 although it was placed at 1st last year.

‘Kensho-san’s voice vibrantly expresses Riku’s refreshing aspect, purity and conflict behind them, which is amazing.’ ‘His singing is overwhelming. ! He plays various aspects of Riku, being energetic, cheerful, and trying something hard, which is great and I really like that!’ As these comments show, the fans were attracted to him playing an active role as the center of IDOLiSH7. The performances at the live he appeared also got a good reputation as the comment ‘Nanarai was also super cool.’ shows.

As the comments below show, some fans voted for the parody characters. ‘I laughed my head off when a voice actor of the original work played a parody character!’ ‘I think what is unbelievable about “Gintama” is that an original voice actor also plays a parody character.’

On the survey in 2020, the top 3 have replaced each other. However, the 3 characters about half of the total votes, which shows they still remain very popular.
