To commemorate the release of the "Bem: Become Human the Movie" (Road Show from Oc. 2, 2020), supporting comments from voice actor Kobayashi Kiyoshi, who had played the role of Bem in first anime series, and Inoue Kazuhiko, who played Bem in the second anime series, have arrived.
This work is the movie version of the TV anime series "Humanoid Monster Bem" that was broadcast in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of "Bem".
Konishi Katsuyuki plays Bem, M.A.O. plays Bela, and Ono Kensho plays Belo.
Kobayashi Kiyoshi, who is known for the role of Jigen Daisuke in the "Lupin III" series, played the role of Bem in the first anime. Inoue Kazuhiko, who is known for his role as Hatake Kakashi in "NARUTO" and Nyanko-sensei in "Natsume's Book of Friends", played Bem in the second generation of the anime series.
This time, we received supporting comments from the two "Bems" who talked about states of the audition for each release.
"Bem : Become Human the Movie" will be on RoadShow from Oct. 2.
<Full comments are below>
Kobayashi Kiyoshi, first generation "Bem"
Compared to the previous works the atmosphere is completely different and it's odd. Seems, I'm overwhelmed. It's like at a dream of a world that is centuries ahead. This is an honest opinion.
It is a magnificent movie. It was beyond my imagination. Please watch it. You can get addicted. It has been evolving for 50 years!
Inoue Kazuhiko, second generation "Bem"
[Impressions on watching the movie]
When I first saw it, I was wondering if everything was completely renewed and how Bem would start.
The further the story went, the more mysteries were revealed, culminating in a magnificent ending. It was like watching a Hollywood movie.
[Thoughts about Bem's role]
I was a person who grew up watching Kobayashi Kiyoshi's "Bem", so I was really excited just to get ano audition, "What? Play Bem?"
(On the audition) I was playing an extremely hard scene and was sure I wouldn't get the part... On ep. 1 and 2 I pulled out everything I've got (laugh)! But over time, I started to play Bem more and more naturally, so I felt lonely by the end and didn't want it to be over.
[Why Bem is still loved?]
At first glance, he is an ugly youkai, but when you look at him closer, you see how beautiful his heart is, and on the contrary, he makes beautiful people look ugly.
. Rather than saying, "I want him to become a human quickly", I think it is better for him to stay youkai.
Bem, Bela, and Balo's feelings are so pure, that this is movie that you may want to watch when you are feeling down.
[Message to Bem's fans]
"Bem" fans, a great movie is coming. The film starts out so unimaginable that you can't even begin to imagine what it would be like for you. We would like you to fully enjoy it at the cinema.

A movie of "BEM", the new anime created to celebrate the 50th century of "Humanoid Monster Bem", titled "BEM: Become Human", has been announced to premiere in autumn 2020. Along with it, a teaser poster and teaser of the film has been released.
"Humanoid Monster Bem" debuted in 1968 on TV, and left an overwhelming impact with its dark, mysterious world and unique characters. The protagonists are never welcomed for their ugly looks, no matter how much good deeds they do, and desperately wish to become human. The monumental horror anime was a big hit that received a record high audience rating of over 20%.
The TV anime "BEM" is a brand new anime that kept the settings and messages from the original work while adding new interpretations and boldly changing the story and characters. It was produced and broadcast in 2019.
The animation of the new film, "BEM: Become Human", will be handled by Production I.G, which has been a part of the "BEM" project from the beginning, and have worked on high-quality animation such as "Ghost in the Shell" and "Psycho-Pass" series.
The production staff are: director Hiroshi Ikehata ("Magical Circle Guru Guru", "Space Battleship Tiramisu"), scriptwriter Tomioka Atsuhiro ("Pokémon", "One Piece: Stampede"), character settings Murata Renji ("Last Exile", "ID-0"), and character designer Matsumoto Mino ("Maria the Virgin Witch", "Attack on Titan: Junior High").
And the main cast members are the same as in the TV anime: Konishi Katsuyuki as Bem, M・A・O as Bela, and Ono Kensho as Belo. Additional cast members will be announced in the future.
Along with the announcement, a teaser poster and teaser of the film were released. The black and red teaser poster has the words "I want to become human." with a character that appears to be Bem hiding his face and a dark shadow cast from his feet, representing the agony of the humanoid monster.
The teaser starts off with the words, "No one knows when it was born..." with "Preludes No.4" by Chopin and red cells pulsating in the background, depicting how the 3 humanoid monsters, "Bem, Bela, and Belo" were born. It ends with the sorrowful whisper saying, "I want to become human".
They acted more human, saved more humans, wanted to be human, more than anyone else... 50 years later, the answer they've reached will finally be revealed in the film.
"BEM: Become Human" is scheduled to premiere in autumn 2020.
