Jun. 11 is “Day of Umbrella”.

This day was created because this day often marked the beginning of the rainy season throughout history. We believe that you will use an umbrella more often as it gets more rainy.

Rain isa source of negative feelings, but there are several anime that contain beautiful rainy scenes. Situations may vary to the anime, such as taking shelter with a friend whom in love with, running through the rain with full speed, or sharing an umbrella with the partner.

Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted the reader’s survey titled “Which anime reminds you of impressive raining scenes?”. The survey was conducted from May 31 to Jun. 7, and a total of 166 answered.
The female readers’ majority, by making up approximately 65%, while the male readers made up approximately 35%. For the age group, the young voters made up the majority. Readers of 19-year old or under made up approximately 40%, while the ’20s made up approximately 35%.

■From Shinkai Makoto’s works to Ghibli: Many anime with impressive raining scenes assembled!
There were votes to several titles in this survey. The works with an outstanding number of votes were Director Shinkai Makoto’s “The Garden of Words” and “Weathering with You”.

“The Garden of Words” is a romance movie released in 2013 which depicts the interaction of a boy and a woman who only meet on rainy days.
The comments from the readers said, “I have an impression that it was raining throughout the story. I was surprised at and moved by beautiful rainy scenes of animation”, and “Impressive rainy scenes continue from the encounter and departure. Beautiful rainy scenes are memorable as they depict the emotions of two main characters”. The comment mentioned the illustration of wet leaves by saying, “Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, where the story is set, was very beautiful”.

“Weathering with You” is the movie released in 2019, where weather is the important motif of the movie as it state in the title. A comment from the readers said, “I think the scene when the heroine Haruna prayed, and the sky quickly got sunny was beautiful”. As the comments said, there were multiple beautiful scenes related rain.

There are raining scenes “PSYCHO-PASS” series when they are important to the story. Many comments mentioned the memorable scenes in the beginning of the series by saying, “Episode 1 of season 1. I got excited by seeing the inspector Tsunemori Akane being affiliated while getting heavily wet in the rain”.
There are also raining scenes when the protagonist of the season 3 called Shindou Arata uses this special ability, Mental Trace.

The titles with abilities affiliated with rain were also important. The protagonist Nike from “Still World Is Beautiful” can call forth the rain, and the comment to her said, “I was moved when she has sung the rainy song for the first time”.

The comment to Ranma, who is the protagonist of “Ranma 1/2”, said, “This work revolves around the characters who change when he wet, therefore there are so many raining scenes!”.

To “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”: “‘Some Day in the Rain’ is a slice of life in rain which is told by the perspectives of the characters except for Kyon. Haruhi asking Kyon to share the umbrella was cute”.
To “Kaguya-sama; Love is War”: “I love the episode when Kaguya and the president shared the same umbrella.”
There were many comments related to the sharing of an umbrella.

To “After the Rain”: “It rained in every episode. Love and rain have a strong connection in every episode and it is said.”

To “Kiki’s Delivery Service”: “Scene where she delivers grandma’s herring pie her grandson did not like it.”
