On Apr. 22, 2020, it was announced that “One-Punch Man” would become a Hollywood live-action film. On Twitter, the original writer ONE reported that “One-Punch Man has been decided to be a live-action film, thanks to everyone! Thank you,” and fans' “cast guessing for Saitama” heated up.
“One-Punch Man” is a heroic comedy serialized at “Young Jump Next” (Shueisha) from 2012 with illustrations by Murata Yusuke, which is based on the manga of the same title that ONE posted on the WEB comic website “Shintosha”.
It depicts how the “average” hero, Saitama, defeats any opponent with “one punch”, and the first season of the TV anime was broadcast in 2015, and the second season was broadcast in 2019.
According to Variety from the US, the Hollywood live-action film adaption is set to be produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment known for such as “Spider Man” and “Venom”, and the scenario is set to be written by the scriptwriters of “Venom”.
Regarding this decision, ONE wrote his appreciation on Twitter that “One-Punch Man has been decided to be a live-action film, thanks to everyone! Thank you,” and continued, “I'm really looking forward to seeing how the story of Saitama goes by Hollywood!” It seems he is looking forward to its completion.
Also, the cast guessing for Saitama heated up on Twitter: “I can not sleep at night wondering whether Dwayne Johnson will be Saitama or Tanktop Master in One-Punch Man's live-action film,” “About One-Punch Man's Hollywood live-action film, everyone says Rock or Vin Diesel would be Saitama, but definitely Anthony Carrigan would be,” “About One-Punch Man's live-action film, it's completely all about Statham (Jason Statham) …,” ” Bruce Willis for Saitama-sensei? lol, ” and “ I heard that One-Punch Man would be a live-action film, but I think that they can choose no one but Kotoge (Kotouge Eiji from Baikingu) for the main character,” etc.
