The collaboration project between “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0” and curry chain “Curry House CoCo Ichibanya” has started in stores all over the nation on Apr. 6, 2020. Anime! Anime! decided to pay a visit to the Tokyo Machida Tsurukawa store on the first day.
First of all, you will be greeted by collaboration banners featuring Eva Unit-01, Eva Unit-2, and Eva Unit-00.
The main attraction for this collaboration is the “Ride! CoCo Unit-01!” lottery, through which you can score a limited edition collaboration design scooter based on Eva Unit-01. In addition, stores will be giving out “Run! CoCo Unit-01” friction bike as little gifts. The bikes’ designs are based on the three EVA units and the NERV logo. It’s a design that looks like it can start driving away at any moment!
The moment I stepped into the store, I was greeted with collaboration visuals on the L-shaped flags, posters, and other such ornaments.
Naturally, there’s also a “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0” themed menu available. Characters such as Shinji, Asuka, Mari, and Kaworu introduce the menu, using catchphrases like: “Power for the you who aims for Ichiban”, “The you who aims for Ichiban! Recommend certain victory menu”, and “A side-menu you can rely on at CoCo Ichi!”.
(TL Note: Ichiban, while also being part of the shop’s name, can also mean first place or number one in Japanese, giving a few of the slogans a double meaning)
The menu had such a rich and varied line-up that I was a little worried, but I chose the “Sausage Curry + Cheese” and added some mushrooms on top. I also tried the “CoCo de Chicken” from the side menu.
At the checkout after my meal, I used my “Gift Acquisition Card” and got to draw one “Run! CoCo Ichi-Unit” from the box by the cash register.
From the 4 available friction bike toy options, I managed to obtain the NERV model.
The “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 x Curry House CoCo Ichibanya” collaboration project will be held until May 24, 2020. You can check the details through the special website.
