The “Stage Evangelion Beyond,” based on “Evangelion,” will be performed from May 6, 2023. The cast had already been announced including Kubota Masataka in the lead role, Ishibashi Shizuka, and Tanaka Tetsushi, but it was announced that Murakami Nijiro would be stepping down from the cast.
“Stage Evangelion Beyond” will be performed as the opening performance of the new theater “THEATER MILANO-Za,” which will be located on the 6th floor of “Tokyu Kabukicho Tower,” a new landmark in Shinjuku, Tokyo. “Evangelion,” which has fascinated many people up until now, will be transformed into a new entertainment on the stage.
The stage performance depicts a devastated Earth and its survivors. The 14-year-old boys and girls piloting “Evangelion” have discovered the “trump card” for the rebirth of mankind and are pushing forward toward hope. However, Watamori Soushi (Kubota Masataka), a young man with a connection to the project, witnesses the opening of a door to another tragedy.
In order to find out the truth, Soushi contacts Mizuho Yu ( Ishibashi Shizuka ), a woman in the special agency, and… An original story unfolds in a production that could only be presented on the stage.
It has been announced that Murakami Nijirou, who was slated to play the role of Hasumi Tan, will be leaving the cast due to physical and mental disorders. Itagaki Mizuo will play the role of Hasumitan in place of Murakami, and the performance will go on as planned.
Tokyu Bunkamura commented, “Although this is an unforeseen situation, the entire cast and staff will do their best to deliver a good production to everyone.”
Murakami has also played in live-action adaptations of anime and manga works, including Yadomi Jinta (Jintan) in the TV drama “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day” and Okita Soji in the movie “Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning”. He will appear as Hanemiya Kazutora in the movie “Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween,” which will be released in April and June 2023.
