“Evangelion Thanksgiving” is scheduled to take place at Hakata Marui in Fukuoka starting on May 5th, 2023. This charity event will offer various items for sale that have been kept in storage for a long time by companies associated with the TV anime “Neon Genesis Evangelion”. A portion of the proceeds generated from this event will be donated to support conservation activities for anime and tokusatsu materials.

The “Evangelion” series has become a social phenomenon since the broadcast of the TV anime “Neon Genesis Evangelion” in 1995. The world created by Anno Hideaki has been expanded through various media such as comics, films, and games, and has gained popularity among people of all ages. The final film of the series, “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time,” was released in 2021 and achieved the highest box office revenue of the entire series.

Many of the items that will be available at “Evangelion Thanksgiving” are no longer in circulation and have become difficult to obtain. Additionally, the charity event will feature exclusive items that were not previously for sale, including “storage samples” that were sent to copyright owners by publishers. These unique items have been made available for purchase to support archive activities that aim to preserve anime and tokusatsu culture for future generations.

Here are some of the items that will be available for purchase: Katsuragi Misato’s beloved “NERV Official Car” published in 1/16 scale by a minicar brand, the “Shito XX” figure series designed by manga artist Yoshizaki Mine famous for “Sgt. Frog” under the concept of “If Ayanami Rei fused with an Angel…”, and one of the first Casio G-SHOCK character collaborations, “G-SHOCK EVANGELION Model”.

The event will also showcase several intriguing items, including the “Quote Teacup,” a first-edition bonus from a game featuring famous quotes from the characters, and “Figure Ayanami Ray” which played a significant role in the growth of Japanese figure culture.

At Hakata Marui, where the event will be held, valuable materials such as cells and keyframes stored by the Anime Tokusatsu Archive Centre (ATAC), will be displayed alongside an introduction to ATAC’s preservation activities. This exhibit is already ongoing since April 21.

Also, customers can receive an original novelty (Evangelion Thanks Giving wet wipes) when purchasing items at the charity event by showing their stub of the “EVANGELION CROSSING EXPO” which is currently being held at JR Kyushu Hall. A limited number of booklets from past events will also be given away as purchase benefits exclusive to Epos Card members.

“Evangelion Thanksgiving” will be held until May 11, and the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” cell exhibit and charity sale will be held from May 5 to 7. The venue is at Hakata Marui 5F (9-1, Hakataeki Chuougai, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka) and will be open from 10 am to 9 pm (JST).
