It has been announced that "SANDA", a unique Santa Clause hero action story by Itagaki Paru, the creator of "BEASTARS", will be adapted into a TV anime. The animation production will be handled by Science SARU. Alongside the announcement, a teaser visual has been released, and comments from original creator Itagaki have been received.
"SANDA," known for sweeping multiple awards including the "Manga Taisho 2018" Grand Prize and four major manga awards, is the latest work by Itagaki Paru. Set in a near-future Japan where children are excessively protected amidst a super-low birthrate era, it portrays an unusual Santa Claus hero action. The series concluded amidst acclaim in the July 11 issue of "Weekly Shonen Champion." The latest volume, Volume 15, is set for release on August 7.
Simultaneously with its conclusion, the TV anime adaptation was announced, entrusted to Science SARU, known for notable works like "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!" and "Dandadan," with accolades such as the Golden Globe nomination for animated feature film for "Inu-Oh" and the Golden Goblet for Best Animation at the Shanghai International Film Festival for "Kimi no Iro."
The teaser visual reveals a muscular Santa Claus figure in a red hood, with a shadow extending to resemble a young boy. It's a piece that stirs your imagination about their relationship. Itagaki commented, "I wanted to draw a manga where characters move in a flashy way! So, I'm delighted about the anime adaptation! Thank you to the readers and Science SARU!"
Further updates on the anime will be announced on the official anime website and official X (formerly Twitter) account. Stay tuned for future developments of the TV anime "SANDA."
