Actor and voice actor Moriyama Shuichiro, known for Porco Rosso, the main character in the Studio Ghibli film “Porco Rosso”, passed away on February 8, 2021 due to pneumonia.

Moriyama was born in Nagoya, Aichi in 1934, and was an actor and voice actor who had been active in a wide range of films, including “Porco Rosso”, Studio Ghibli’s film as the main character Porco Rosso, the TV drama “Kojak” as Telly Savalas (as dubbing), “Princess Knight”, “Tiger Mask”, “Gegege no Kitaro (2nd film)”, “Astro Boy (2nd film)”, “TRICK and more.

On February 9, 2021, Moriyama’s official Twitter account was updated to announce, “Actor and voice actor Moriyama Shuichiro passed away on February 8, 2021 due to pneumonia. He was 86 years old.”
And it continued, “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to his fans and everyone involved for the great support during his 63 years in the entertainment industry. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our heart and sincerely inform you of his passing.”

In response to the announcement, comments from fans were continuously received on his official Twitter account; “I fell in love with his voice, and fell in love with his smile… I dreamed of being a grown man. I think it was Moriyama-san who gave life to “Porco Rosso”. I thank you from the bottom of my heart”, “I love that classic and cool voice of Porco”, “I will never forget that voice full of sophistication. May his soul rest in peace”, “Thank you for all your hard work over the years and for your wonderful voice. I’m going to watch Porco Rosso tonight.”
