Anime! Anime! conducted interviews with the voice actors in charge of each day of the week to celebrate the 4th anniversary and the start of the new season. We asked them about their journey with "Seiyu to Yoruasobi" and their enthusiasm for the fourth year.
This time, we interviewed Shimono Hiro, the MC for Tuesday. As he enters his third year as the MC of "Seiyu to Yoruasobi", we asked him what he thinks is the significance of the program's existence. We asked him about the behind-the-scenes evolution of the program.

--How did you feel when you first heard that you would be continuing as the MC for "Seiyu to Yoruasobi 2021"?
Shimono: I've been the MC for 2019 and 2020, and the number of viewers who watch the show has been increasing, and I have the impression that the show is evolving at a very fast pace.
Because the show continues to evolve, I was hoping that I would be able to do it again in 2021, so when I was asked to do it, I really thought, "Yes! So when I got the offer, I was really excited.
--Are there any memorable episodes in 2020?
Shimono: I wrote a letter to Maaya-chan (Uchida Maaya) on her birthday, and she really cried over it. I didn't mean to create such an atmosphere, so I was very surprised.
But I was happy that she seemed to have enjoyed it. We also tried to dress up in costumes for Halloween, and every episode left a lasting impression on me.
Also, I have one thing to say to the staff. The sets and props have a handmade feel to them, but sometimes they are very messy (lol). I would like them to test the props beforehand to see if they can be used properly in the project. But I can tell that they are working very hard on it.
As for this studio, I feel like it's half a vacation home. I think I'm getting used to it.
--Is there anything you would like to tell your partner, Uchida-san?
Shimono: I'd like her to be free to do what she's been doing for the past two years, and I've learned that when Maaya-chan is enjoying the show itself, things usually go in an interesting direction. At the moment, I'm fighting with her and the staff, but I'm also watching over everyone.
It's a show, and if you call it work, it's work, but my own feeling is that it's a "night out", and I approach each recording session with a sense of "fun". In my mind, Maaya-chan and the staff are my "friends who I play with at night”. I'm sure the viewers enjoy this atmosphere, and I'm sure I'll continue to enjoy this program myself.
--What kind of day of the week do you want to make it in the future?
Shimono: We've been told that "Tuesdays are for healing," so we'd like to keep that in mind as we deliver the show to those who have been watching and those who will be watching in the future. We don't have a clear theme of "healing," but we hope to continue to do the same projects, corners, and games that we've always done so that everyone can enjoy themselves.
--Shimono-san, do you have any "healing" activities of your own?
Shitano: I take a bath after the late night live broadcast of "Seiyu to Yoruasobi". I feel like, "Another day is over! I feel so refreshed.
--Are there any projects that you would like to try in 2021?
Shitano: The studio is fun, but I'd like to go out. I'd like to take a walk at night, even if it's just around the studio.
I also enjoy playing card games and board games, so I would like to learn more about various games.
--There are many analog games that you may not be aware of.
Shitano: Yes, there are. That's exactly what I did with "Ciao Ciao." I think I played it with a different purpose than the original game. But it was a lot of fun, and I'd like to find a way to play it that is unique to "Seiyu to Yoruasobi”.
--Is there anyone you would like to invite as a guest in the future?
Shimono: I'd like to have KICK☆, a comedian who is a semi-regular on the show, and Kiyono Shigeki, an announcer who has been doing the play-by-play for us, come back. I also have a relationship with Aiba Masaki, so I'd like to see that happen someday.
--Is there a day of the week you would like to go out and play?
Shitano: Monday is the one I wish I could go to all the time. Also, I've been interested in Thursdays since before I became an MC. Also, I have no idea how "Connect" will turn out, but I'm curious to see what it will be like when I get there. It's like a challenge.
Every time I watch the live broadcast on Tuesdays, it switches to "Connect" right after it ends, and about half the time they talk about poop (lol). I'm curious to know what's going on.
--The motif of this program is "playing at night," but conversely, do you have a morning routine?
Shitano: In terms of food routines, I eat fruit every day. I feel that if I don't eat it, I won't be in good shape.
I choose the kinds of fruits I want to eat the day before and eat them in various ways, but I especially like apples and citrus fruits, which I have been eating lately. I often have breakfast after eating the fruit and leaving a little time to relax. Fruits contain fructose, so it is not good to eat too much, but I think it is necessary to eat fruits in moderation.
--Since it's a new season, is there anything you would like to try in 2021?
Shimono: I've been wanting to climb Mt. Fuji. It's been closed for a long time and there's no maintenance, so it may be difficult this year, but I'll be patient.
I also want to have a barbecue during "Seiyu to Yoruasobi". I think it would be difficult to have a barbecue at the studio, so I'd like to have it in the large space in front of the studio entrance. Or at the parking lot.

--Sounds like something to look forward to. Lastly, do you have a message for the fans?
Shimono: I'm sure there were a lot of people who were wondering what the new season would be like because of the mean staff, but we wanted to say something quickly. Nothing has changed.
I will continue to work together with Maaya to create the show. We would like to continue to have fun at night with you, so we hope you will support us and enjoy the show.

Q. We believe that you were the chairperson for "Say You to Yoasobi 2020". What did you feel when you received an offer as of last year?
Uesaka: 2020 flew by so quickly that I sometimes feel "wow, it's already over". I feel relieved that I can continue the role of chairperson of "Say You to Yoasbi" also in 2021.
I feel exhausted after every show because the theme is "destruction", but Mikakoshi-san (Komatsu Mikako) controls the show so nicely and I can act freely during the show. I want feel the fans to feel refreshing atmosphere in addition to the destruction.
Q. What are Wednesdays for you, Uesaka-san?
Uesaka: The song "Ame no Wednesday" (Rainy Wednesday) by Ootaki Eiichi pops into my mind. I believe Wednesday is when fatigue starts accumulating. At the same time, Wednesday is the day CDs are released, so it is an important day of the week as an artist myself.
Q. What is an impressive episode from "Say You to Yoasobi 2020"?
Uesaka: I remember Mikakoshi-san wore a cosplay for my birthday and I also remember Mikakoshi-san and I wore wedding costumes together. Also, I dressed-up like Santa Clause on the Christmas episode, and we could experience many changes unique to girls.
Q. What is your goal to make "Say You to Yoasobi 2021" a wonderful show?
Uesaka: I think the show will be beautiful with participation of the new chairperson, Tokui Sora. I look forward for the fan time with the other two members, and the energy from 3 ladies will match perfectly with "Destructive Wednesday".
Q. Do you have any request for the show section?
Uesaka: I really enjoyed when I visited the bar called "L'asile", so I hope that I can go outside during the show, but I love this nicely planned studio and projects, too.
Q. Do you have any request for the guests?
Uesaka: I want to talk to "professionals" of destruction. I want to meet fighters and the professionals who deal with explosives.
Q. I believe you have many hobbies, but what makes you love professional wrestling so much?
Uesaka: I was charmed by the wrestler called Tiger Jet Shin. He was a villain wrestler of New Japanese Wrestling from overseas,
but he had his own performance, including using sabers and fight just using seats. Since then, I am charmed by the professional wresting that I kept watching "Kinnikuman" and "Professional Wrestling Superstar Legends".
Q. Professional wrestlers look like they are not only the tough men, but also have kind, and caring personalities.
Uesaka: I believe that comes from the fact they are also businessmen. They always work hard to make their company look nice, and they are the strongest businessmen.
Q. Do you have any request to appear as the guest in the show on other days of the week?
Uesaka: Well, I want to visit any other show, except for "Say You to Yoasbi" Connect", ran by Kimura Subaru-san and Kaneda Tomoko-san.
Q. Do you have any morning routines?
Uesaka: I drink supplements sent by calculating the nutrients I lack, since I do not always eat enough vegetables. Also, I drink enzyme drink, so I look like I take in a good amount of nutrients. I cannot wake up well, but I can drink supplements without opening my eyes.
Q. Do you have any message to your partner, Komatsu Mikako?
Uesaka; Uh...I love you.
Q. What is your goal for the 4th anniversary?
Uesaka; I want to try the skydiving, since this year is also the 10th anniversary of me as a voice actress.
Moreover, since "party" is the theme of "Say You to Yoasbi 2021", so I want to ride in a Limousine. I want to enjoy this year fully like drinking a champagne on a limousine.
Q. May I have your message toward the fans?
Uesaka; I will be your chairperson for "Say You to Yoasbi 2021" as of the previous show, "Say You to Yoasobi 2020",
I believe there will be new visitors to the show. Wednesday is day of shouting, destroying and asking for unbelievable requests to the guests, etc... It is the day to go against the flow of the forceful society.
I believe this show will be the unforgettable 90 minutes, so please drink this show like a medicine to cure your fatigue.

--How did you feel when you first heard that you would be continuing as the MC for "Say You to Yoasobi 2021"?
Uchida: I was very happy. Every Tuesday, I come to the studio at the same time and make a show with the same people. I've been doing this for two years and it's become a routine, so I've been anxiously wondering if I'll be able to do it again next year, and I'll miss it if it disappears.
The staff asked me, "Will you continue as MC?" , so I answered immediately, "Of course, I would like to continue with Shimono-san." I was very relieved because I didn't know until the very last minute if I would continue, and I was more than happy to be able to continue MCing with Shimono-san again.
--Have there been any memorable projects on "Healing Tuesday"?
Uchida: The Tanabata episode where we wore "Tanabata costumes". We were both wearing different costumes, but we happened to rent our clothes from the same place, so when we stood side by side, it looked really good. On Tuesdays, we are allowed to wear different clothes for each season, but I was particularly impressed by the high level of perfection and the enthusiasm with which we were able to do it.
--Speaking of flippant projects, you also have fun with the board game "Ciao, Ciao" using different rules than the original.
Uchida: We played a lot of other board games on "Say You to Yoasobi 2020," but that one was particularly fun. We added new tricks and deviated from the original rules to play with our own unique rules, but no matter how crazy we got, Shimono-san would accept it, so we were free to play.
--What kind of day of the week would you like to make from the next season?
Uchida: Since the show is called "Healing Tuesdays," I would like to continue to aim for a show that makes everyone smile and feel relieved.
Also, the good thing about Tuesdays is that it is fun for children to watch, with cosplay and board games." It's called "Nightlife", so it's a nighttime show, but it's still an hour and a half that people can watch with their families.
At first, I was worried that I wasn't being aggressive enough, but on Tuesday, that part of the show became my personality and turned into a good thing. I'd like to keep that intact.
--Are there any projects you would like to do in the new season?
Uchida: I'd like to do a project related to baseball, which I love. In the second season, former professional baseball player Satozaki Tomoya visited us. I'd like to collaborate with people involved in baseball again or go to the ballpark.
Also, I'd like to have a collaboration of "Say You to Yoasobi" and "Pacific League" to create a project like "Challenge a Ugly Girl!” It would be great if we could do something like that. I'd like to make an announcement like "Pitcher ...... Wada".
Also, since Maeno-san (Maeno Tomoaki) is also a baseball fan, it would be interesting to have a baseball duel between the Tuesday team (Shimono and Uchida) and the Monday team (Yasumoto and Maeno).
--When I interviewed Maeno-san, he said, "This year, I definitely don't want to lose to Uchida-san.
Maeno-san is a big fan of the Yomiuri Giants, and they were defeated in the Japan Series two years in a row by the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, which Uchida-san supports.
Uchida: Last year, we didn't let them win a single game in the Japan Series, so I wish we could!
As for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks this year, they seemed to be finishing well when I watched their opening game. While they are trying out some of their younger players, their first team roster is as thick as ever, and they won three straight games against the Chiba Lotte Marines, a team they are not very good at, so that's good.
Also, the veteran players, commonly known as "Ojitaka," are very good. Matsuda Nobuhiro, Akashi Takeshi, Hasegawa Yuya, Kawashima Keizo and Wada Tsuyoshi, who is now 40 years old, are all expected to win as starting pitchers.
I would be very happy if all of these players could be my guests during the off-season.
--Are there any days of the week you would like to join?
Uchida: Any day of the week sounds interesting, but I'm curious about Friday's conversation between Seki-san (Seki Tomokazu) and Hatanaka-san (Hatanaka Tasuku) because I can't imagine what kind of conversation they'll have (lol). I think this is Seki-san's 4th year as MC, and he's a major figure in "Say You to Yoasobi" so I'd like to learn a lot from him.
On Wednesdays, there will be three girls, Komatsu-san (Komatsu Mikako), Uesaka-san (Uesaka Sumire), and Tokui-san (Tokui Sora). It would be fun if I showed up, saying 'Do you need a 4th girl?'
I had heard about "Destruction Wednesday" and was surprised when I saw them breaking down the door. I'm wondering what would happen if "Healing Tuesday" and "Destruction Wednesday" came together.
--Do you ever watch other days of the week?
Uchida: I often watch videos that come up on my Twitter timeline.
Also, it's not the show itself, but when the MCs of other days of the week are on TV or in other media, I tend to watch them. "Subaru-kun is making cola! "Oh, Seki-san," "It's Morikubo-san (Shotaro)," and so on. I feel a sense of camaraderie, like we're in different classes at the same school, so I'm curious.
--The show is associated with nighttime, but on the contrary, do you have a morning routine?
Uchida: I'm a big fan of pickled plums, and I look forward to eating them every morning. I even order them from a specialty store, and I like them so much that they were featured on the program, but I get swollen if I eat them at night, so I hold back and eat them in the morning.
I keep a box of various kinds of pickled plums and eat them randomly according to my mood at the time. I'm so confident that I can taste any kind of pickled plum I've had before.
They are also very good for the body, so when I don't eat rice, I dissolve them in hot water and use them as plum water.
--Is there anything you would like to say to your partner, Shimono Hiro?
Uchida: The longer we've known each other, the more I've learned that he does a lot of different things, and the more I learn about him, the more I realize how interesting he is.
I'd like to say, "Please be open-minded and wait for me!”
--Again, how is your combination with Shimono-san?
Uchida: If I were to use a game analogy, Shimono-san would hold up his shield and step forward to block out dangerous traps and such. After that, I would attack from behind with my sword, saying, "Swish, swish, yah! I didn't realize it at first, but over the past two years I've come to realize that this is the best combination. I would like to develop the combination further in the future.

--Since it's a new season, what is something new you would you like to try this year?
Uchida: I want to make this a year of learning, so I want to challenge myself in English. Looking at my followers on Instagram, etc., I see that many of them are from China and other foreign countries, and I have a strong desire to communicate more to my overseas fans.
I feel that if I can convey my thoughts in my own words, they will be happy and my own world will expand. I don't have many opportunities to speak English in my daily life or at work, but I would like to challenge myself over the next few years.
