Episode 12, the final episode of Season 1 of “Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch from Mercury”, “Keep Marching On Instead of Running Off,” aired on Sunday, January 8, 2023. This article looks back at Episode 12.

“Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury” is the latest TV animation of the Gundam series after a seven-year absence. Set in “A.S. (Ad Stella) 122,” an era in which numerous corporations have advanced into space and established a huge economic zone, the story begins when a girl named Suletta Mercury from the remote land of Mercury is accepted into the pilot course at Asticassia School of Technology, which is run by the Benerit Group, the largest mobile suit manufacturer.

Due to the nature of this theme, the following text contains descriptions that may be “spoilers” for those who have not yet seen Episode 12. Please be careful when reading.

In episode 12, “Keep Marching On Instead of Running Off,” Plant Quetta is attacked by two Gundams, and Suletta and Miorine are split up.

Miorine encountered her father, Delling, while running around the facility to meet up with Suletta. When Miorine’s father first says to her, “It is an ironclad rule to wear a normal suit during an evacuation,” Miorine protests, “Aren’t you worried about your daughter first and foremost?” But this issue of attire was the key to the later development of the story.

Also, Güel’s father, Vim Jeturk, takes off in a Dilanza Sol. Not recognizing each other, when Güel learned that Suletta was on Plant Quetta, he also went out to fight his father. The scene was met with many comments on Twitter about the differences between father and son, such as “Güel’s father and his dubious father always lacked one word,” and “The last words ‘I searched for you’ are harsh”.

In order to save Miorine, Suletta walks to “Hangar 78 in C Block” where the Aerial is waiting for her, and is saved by her mother, Prospera, when she is almost discovered by the enemy in front of Hangar 78.
Suletta was frightened by the exchange of life unfolding before her eyes, but her mother cast a magic spell, “One for running away, two for going forward,” and Suletta “went forward” to fight with the Aerial again.

This time, the Aerial appears as a (refurbished) model. The damage sustained in the duel with the Grassley house has been repaired, and the external armor and equipment have been renewed and added to overwhelm the two Gundams driven by the “Earth Witches”.

In part C, after the ending, Suletta discovers Miorine, notices the muzzle of a gun pointed at her and tries to help her, but……

The scene is quite shocking. “Swatting flies with an innocent voice is too grotesque,” “I guess she wanted Miorine to praise her…,” “It’s traumatic,” “Suletta usually speaks in a respectful manner, but in the scene she says ‘I’m here to help you, Miorine,'” and “She talks to her in a very formal manner. Is it an indication that her personality is different from normal?” The “PROLOGUE” episode was met with even more outrage than the “Gundam” episode, with comments such as, “It’s a Gundam thing to pretend to be nice to newcomers at first…” and “It’s just like Gundam to be able to broadcast something like this at 5:00 PM”.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Suletta, who has been called a “murderer,” for Miorine, with her frightened eyes, and for all that surrounds them.
