"Kotobuki Minako's Another Wonderland in the UK" is a series of interviews with Kotobuki Minako, a voice actress who is currently living in the UK. She talks her daily life in the UK.
Last time, we talked a lot about how the museums and theaters in the UK finally opened in May, how she enjoyed her holidays, and how she felt about the live distribution of "Sphere's 4 colors LABO".
This time, on the 15th interview, Kotobuki -san told about how she enjoys living in England, after completing the stay home period, enjoying the long-sought "Victoria & Albert Museum", and celebrating her friend's birthday. In the theme talk, the person who she has been longing for 10 years was revealed.
[Interview / text = Yoneda Kaori]
■ "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" is released in England! Hayami Saori's birthday celebration
――Since last month, the situation has changed significantly in the United Kingdom, including the easing of regulations on measures against spreading the novel coronavirus. On your blog and YouTube channel, you seem to enjoy museums and theaters.
Kotobuki: Yes! Because I can do things that I couldn't do before, I'm enjoying it with all my might.
――On the YouTube channel, you said that you signed up for vaccination.
Kotobuki: I'm soon will be 30, so I have to make a reservation right away. I was surprised that there were about 10,000 people waiting for online reservations on the day.
It's hard to connect, and once you disconnected, you have to wait from the end of the line again. I concentrated on making reservations so that the screen wouldn't disappear (laughs).
――In "Kotobuki Minako's Rough Laugh", you said that "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train" was finally released in England. Have you seen it yet?
Kotobuki: I saw it! Despite this corona pandemic, the theater was almost half full. It was exactly on spring break, so there were many young people. I went to see it with my host family's relatives, and I thought they really wanted to watch it in Japanese, so I was planning to take the Japanese dub version.
But when it started, for some reason both Tanjirou and Rengoku were talking in English. I noticed while watching, "Do I know those voices?... Oh, I chose the wrong ticket!" (Laughs).
It was really interesting, especially the scene from the PV where Rengoku was eating a lunch box on the train and saying not "Oishii" but "Tasty!".
And the ending was so sad! The host family's relatives also cried, saying, "We've never cried so much!"
――In May, your friend Hayami Saori, who also appeared in the "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba", had her birhday. Kotobuki-san, you also sent a message to the event.
Kotobuki: It is another memorable event of May! Apart from that message, we celebrated her birthday on the phone with Hayamin (Hayami-san's nickname) and Yuki Aoi. Also, the gift, about which I wrote in the message that I gave to her, is the one in this photo.
At the well-established department store "Fortnum & Mason" in the United Kingdom, I carefully selected tea leaves that suit the two of them and presented the blend. It seems that they haven't received it yet, so I don't know how they liked the taste. I hope they will find it delicious!
――So, let's look back with the photos from here.
■ Enjoy British iced tea in a memorable place
――In this photo, there is an image of someone's birthday cake.
Kotobuki: This is a picture of my Brazilian classmate celebrating his birthday. It seems to be a cake made by a Brazilian pastry chef, but as it looks, it was really sweet! It was so sweet that I couldn't eat all of it, but for the first time, I came across a cake that was so exciting just by looking at it (laughs).
――The sweetness can is obvious from the photo (laughs). What's on the next photo?
Kotobuki: This is a picture taken at a place in my memory. It's called "Tea House Theatre", but it's a favorite shop of my first friend in England.
He has already returned to Japan, but I remember coming to grab a bite there with him before returning to Japan. His birthday was in June, and I happened to come nearby for a dance lesson, so I thought, "I have to call for a celebration after eating here," and this is a picture of the food I ate at that time...
The drink next to this Eggs Benedict is actually tea! There is basically no iced tea in England. Drinking ice tea seems like a bad idea here (laughs).
However, this shop has two types of iced tea menus, so I ordered it. It was very delicious.
■ The heart desired "Victoria & Albert Museum"
――It's a picture from the "Victoria & Albert Museum", where you said you wanted to in a previous interview. You were finally able to get inside!
Kotobuki: That's right ~! It was a long-cherished desire, so I walked all over, and in fact, I was only able to see one floor on that day (laughs). This photo shows the "Ruins" area on the 1st floor. I was so impressed with the power that I couldn't move on.
――When you saw only one floor, you want to go there again.
Kotobuki: I feel like I can't go all around unless I go a couple of more times (laughs). It seems that the exhibition of "Alice in Wonderland" would start the day after I went, and I wanted to see it.

■ Anime and voice actors that influenced Kotobuki Minako...
――Since you just talked about "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba", this time I would like to talk with you about "anime".Before we discussed the "music" that influenced you before, but what anime influenced you?
Kotobuki: I had a audition for the current office, Music Ray'n, without knowing that it was a "voice actor's office" (laughs). At that time I was asked, "What is your favorite anime?" I remember saying "Detective Conan" because I was so nervous.
I love "Detective Conan" so much, that even before, when I was asked about my favorite character in a message from Tomatsu Haruka on "Kotobuki Minako's Rough Laugh
", I said "Kudou Shinichi".
Also, when I was a child, the movie series "Crayon Shin-chan" deeply impressed me. When I was a kid, I used to like "Crayon Shin-chan: Fierceness That Invites Storm! The Adult Empire Strikes Back" and "Crayon Shin-chan: Fierceness That Invites Storm! The Battle of the Warring States", but since I became an adult, I realized that I like the works made by director Hara Keiichi.
Also, I liked the world view of "Crayon Shin-chan: Great Adventure in Henderland ", but when I realized that the set design was done by Yuasa Masaaki, I realized that I really like Yuasa's worldviewafter growing up.
――I think when you a little, you don't notice things like "favorite voices". Are there any voice actors you admire?
Kotobuki: After I entered the office at the age of 14, I just watched anime and learned about many voice actors thinking, "I can make this kind of voice," "I like this kind of anime," and "I can do this kind of acting."
After I became a voice actress, I was influenced by Kaida Yuuko's voice and acting, and thought, "I want to do more dubbing work!"
I liked her since "TIGER & BUNNY", and not only the voicing but also her personality! My favorite Kaida-san's work is "Gossip Girl", and thankfully I was able to participate from Season 4, and Kaida-san contacted me the day before dubbing. She invited me, "The cast of 'Gossip Girl' always goes out to eat out after recording, so if you like, please come.", and I admired how she leads everyone as a chairman and the her behavior at the scene.
――In Kotobuki Minako's 1st photo book "Minako Michi" (released in 2011), the Q & A "Women I Longed for" included the names of Audrey Hepburn, Miyazaki Aoi, and Kaida-san. Kotobuki-san loves Kaida-san for 10 years.
Kotobuki: Ah! I see... My Kaida-san's fan history has been 10 years... From now on, I can say "I'm a fan of Kaida-san!" (Laughs).
――Have you been influenced by the interaction with the British actors?
Kotobuki: When I play a role, I think there is an image that "in the case of such a character, I play this way", but when I see English actors, something completely different from the image comes to my head. In some cases, my rigid concept was broken.
I think after returning to Japan and I'll start to go to auditions regularly again, but thanks to coming to the UK my acting range becomes wider, and now I can say, "I would like to play this way for this audition".
――What role does Kotobuki-san want to play now?
Kotobuki: I want to play a villain with its own justice, which I haven't played much before. There is a villain learning course called "Villain Course" in the English acting course, and my friend said, "It's really interesting!", so I'll take it next time.
――This year is your 15th anniversary of the debut of a voice actress. I think you has played various roles in many works but is there any role that you feel was a turning point?
Kotobuki: There were many things. Each time is a turning point. But after all, the first turning point was "TIGER & BUNNY". I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of my seniors for their work and acting, and I received a lot of advice, so it was a great learning experience.
When I couldn't play it well, Hirata Hiroaki, who played the role of Tiger, told me, "Do it this way"... Such a precious opportunity is rare!
I think that the shock and excitement I received from this work and the fun of creating the work are all connected to me now.
――Thank you very much!
"Kotobuki Minako's Another Wonderland in the UK" is a series of interviews with voice actress Kotobuki Minako, who is currently living in the UK, and reports her daily life in the UK in her own words.
In the last interview, we talked about the current situation in the UK after the deregulation, her thoughts on dubbing work during the corona crisis, and her reacting to Takagaki Ayahi-san's cooking video in "4 colors LABO".
In this 4th interview, we will be looking back at Kotobuki-san's life in the UK with the photos she took for a change. What was the moment that touched Kotobuki-san this past month?
[Interview and composition by Yoneda Kaori]
■The UK and Kotobuki Minako both had a change in this past month.
――It's been about a month since the last interview. Could you tell us about what happened to you and your surroundings?
Kotobuki: In the UK, cafes and pubs started to re-open in July and I have the impression that the city is getting a lot busier.
I haven't had a meal inside a store, but as far as looking from the outside, each shop is doing its best to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.
――Has there been any change in your life?
Kotobuki: I just finished this semester's exam the other day!
I'm now going to summer school. The content of the classes, teachers, and classmates have all changed, so I feel refreshed attending the classes.
■Enjoying delicious meals every day! Home cooking by the host family
――I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures and hearing stories that come with it! Here's the first photo. Is this a soap bar...?
Kotobuki: No, it's caramel made by my host mother, haha!
――Oh, I'm sorry...
Kotobuki: She told me its easy to make, "You just need to mix and let it harden." I want to try making it someday!
――Is this second photo another dish by your host mother?
Kotobuki: Yes. It's a baked apple with caramel in it and custard on top of it.
In the UK, they have a tradition of having custard every holiday, and at my host house, the deserts we have for Sunday lunch always have custard on them.
――It looks so good it makes me hungry.
Kotobuki: It sure was delicious!
In fact, I used to dislike baked apples. I hated the sogginess of baked apples, but as you can see in the picture, it kept its shape and wasn't soggy so I could just keep on eating.
――There are a lot more photos of the dishes made by your host family.
Kotobuki: It's become more of a collection of my host mother's dishes, haha.
■Kotobuki Minako's home cooking! She challenges cooking on YouTube!
――In a previous interview, you said that you only eat food prepared by the host family on weekends. Do you have any photos of the dishes you cook for yourself on weekdays?
Kotobuki: Yes I do! I cooked this mango cheesecake with my host mother to celebrate the 375th (Minako) episode of "Kotobuki Minako's Rough Laugh". (※A radio program hosted by Kotobuki-san broadcast on Chou! A&G+.)
And I also cooked sausage rolls, a traditional British dish. I've introduced this dish on my YouTube channel "Kotobuki Minako's ~Maji Kotobuki!~".
Kotobuki: It's a delicious pie with sausage fillings in it. A friend of mine told me it was easy to cook, so I tried making it. I didn't need a knife for the most part and it was really simple.
British dishes are so heavily dependant on the oven, haha.

■Meeting a friend for the first time at the park! What did they talk about in nature?
――These white flowers are beautiful!
Kotobuki: They're from my host family's garden. I loved the sense of humor of my host father when picked these flowers and said, "Don't tell about me giving you these flowers. She'll be jealous."
Needless to say, it's rare to have such a big garden in Tokyo. The parks are full of nature, and it's so big that there's a river running through it. There are even wild squirrels and foxes in the park. I guess they find it very cozy.
――I heard you met your classmate with who you only communicated online.
Kotobuki: I'm really good friends with the girl from Iraq I mentioned in the last interview, and we actually met and talked at the park yesterday!
We both love K-pop and Korean dramas, so we always enjoy talking about it, haha.
Oh, and she watched "A Whisker Away", which I take part in.
(Available worldwide on Netflix. ※Kotobuki-san voiced Fukase Yoriko).
―― What did your friend from Iraq think about it?
Kotobuki: She said that the cat's were super cute, and she enjoyed it.
I asked her if she recognized my voice, and she said "Of course! It was clear as day. You were that girl who becomes a cat (Muge voiced by Shida Mirai), right?" No, that wasn't me! I couldn't help laughing, haha.
――haha. But it is quite a rare experience to be able to hear about what overseas viewers think about the work you took part in. Did you notice any other differences between countries?
Kotobuki: When we decided to meet at the park, I brought "Potapota Yaki" (A common rice cracker from Japan) with me as a gift, but she brought me some homemade sweets!
She told me it was a traditional sweets from Iraq, and it looked like thick pancakes. It had grains often used in Arabic countries with some syrup on top.
She even had drinks and other snacks, so I felt bad for bringing only "Potapota Yaki", haha.
――Do you talk to her about each other's countries?
Kotobuki: She's still 22, and she experienced the war between the US when she was in elementary school, and the war between ISIS when she was 16.
During class, we often talk about what we did as a child, but she almost never had the chance to play outside, and going out on her own was out of the question. It made me realize how different it is in Japan.
――An English garden full of nature seems like a good place to have a conversation.
Kotobuki: It sure is! In fact, yesterday was the second time I met her, but we got to talk a lot more than we did online.
■Which Marvel movie does Kotobuki Minako like? The movie she watched with Yuuki Aoi ranked in.
――This photo is from a shop. I see many Marvel goods.
Kotobuki: They had a corner full of Marvel goods, so I had to take a picture. I bought Marvel designed Q-tips and cotton pads because they were so cute.
――By the way, which Marvel movies are your favorites?
Kotobuki: I chose my "Top 5 favorite movies" in class the other day, and I put "Avengers: Endgame" at 4th place.
I've watched most of the Marvel movies, and I love them all so it was hard to pick one of them.
I went to watch the earliest screening of "Endgame" with Yuuki Aoi-chan. There were many people in cosplay and I took a picture with a person in the costume of Black Widow. I loved the film including these memories.
Oh, and Black Panther is my favorite hero! It was the first Marvel film I've ever seen.
■Is "Harry Potter" everywhere in the UK? Lots of cute goods.
――These are "Harry Potter" socks.
Kotobuki: I found these at the fashion chain "Primark", which is said to be the cheapest in the UK. It's not a surprise that you can find "Harry Potter" goods where ever you go.
――You watched a "Harry Potter" stage play in the UK, right?
Kotobuki: Yes! I really enjoyed it so I want everyone to watch it. I was in awe during the entire show.
They are planning to bring it to Japan in 2022, and I look forward to that too.
→Next Page: Hair cut in the garden! Hairdressers in the UK get creative.
■Hair cut in the garden! Hairdressers in the UK get creative.
――This is a selfie of you. Your hair is a lot shorter than in the last interview!
Kotobuki: Thanks for noticing!
I could only meet people outside to prevent the spread of CVID-19, so I had a hairdresser cut my hair in the yard. It was nice to get a hair cut under the open sky!
■First time to see the sights in the UK!
――This is a photo of the famous "Marble Arch". (The gates at Hyde Park, London. Designed by John Nash in 1828.)
Kotobuki: Yes. There were some documents I needed to pick up from central London, so I took a photo of it on my first train ride since I got here.
It was shocking to see people playing table tennis under the Marble Arch, haha.
I was also shocked to see the people in the photo shaking their elbows instead of their hands after the game. I've heard about "greeting with elbows and feet" in the news, but this was the first time to see people actually doing it.
■Choosing tea of the color of Sphere! What did she send as her first international mail?
――The package design of this tea is so cute!
Kotobuki: This brand is called "Hebden Tea". The tea is from Yorkshire and comes in a variety of flavors! I bought it because my friend recommended it to me.
――I saw you comparing different flavor teas on YouTube. Did you change your ranking or find any new delicious tea since then?
Kotobuki: Lately, I've been drinking "Pukka Tea", which I mentioned on YouTube. It's cheap and delicious!
The other day, I had an opportunity to use international mail for the first time, so I decided to send "Pukka Tea" to the members of Sphere.
"Pukka Tea" has a really wide variety, so I got a pink tea that says "LOVE" for (Takagaki) Ayaka and because Haru-chan (Tomatsu Haruka) is orange, I got her some with Manuka and ginger in it. For Aki-chan (Toyosaki Aki), I got some tea designed with white and green because she sang a song about white clovers. I chose tea based on the color of the members of Sphere.
■Fireworks at midnight?! Different rules from Japan.
――This is a video instead of a photo. It looks like you were recording fireworks from home.
Kotobuki: You would think they're organized by the government or the city, but they're actually set off by locals.
I was surprised that anybody could set off fireworks in the UK.
Also, it's about 10:00 p.m. when the sun goes down in the UK now, so the fireworks go off when people try to go to bed. The explosions shook me up when I was half asleep, and I was like, "What's going on?!" But I forgave them because they were so beautiful, haha.
■Kotobuki Minako's thoughts on looking back on life in the UK.
――Looking back on the past month with these photos, was there anything new you noticed?
Kotobuki: It's great to feel inspired and laugh again at what happened in the past! I try to take pictures of even the little things, but some of them I find not interesting enough to post it on my blog, so it was nice to be able to show you these photos I didn't have the opportunity to reveal.
I hope they'll give you a smile.
―― Finally, do you have anything you would like to say to your fans?
Kotobuki: The seasons have changed in the blink of the eye, and summer is already here. The UK does have four seasons, not as distinct as in Japan, but I'm enjoying it.
I hope you all enjoy each day and turn your ordinary days into great memories!

Kotobuki Minako Profile
"A Whisker Away" as Fukase Yoriko
A member of "Sphere" consisting of Takagaki Ayahi, Tomatsu Haruka, and Toyosaki Aki.
"Another Wonderland in the UK" is a series of interviews in which Kotobuki Minako, a voice actress who is currently living in the UK, talks about her daily life in the UK.
In the last interview, she was enjoying her life in England, overcoming her stay home period, enjoying her long-cherished "Victoria & Albert Museum" and celebrating her friend's birthday. In the theme talk, she revealed the person for whom she has been longing for 10 years.
In this part 16, we will take a look back on her last month in England with photos taken by Kotobuki-san. She tells about what she learned from this experience and her impressions of the "Wimbledon Tennis Championships", which was her first challenge as a reporter. Also, as Japan is in the middle of the "Tokyo Olympics 2020", I asked Kotobuki-san about her memories of "sports".
[Interview / text = Yoneda Kaori]
■ The first challenge as a reporter at Wimbledon Tennis!
――Congratulations on your reporter's job for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships! Fans were excited to see Kotobuki-san's everyday reports.
Kotobuki: Thank you to everyone who watched it! This was my first time working as a reporter, so I was very nervous. My knowledge of tennis was a little bit ignorant when I was playing "Baby Steps" (* an anime about tennis in which Kotobuki-san played Takasaki Natsu). I was even asked, "Maybe you'll be interviewed in English." I was happy when I heard that, but as time went on, I was worried, "Can I handle it?"
――In the first place, Kotobuki-san, how have you been assigned to a reporter?
Kotobuki: Previously, I was in charge of narration for a program that introduced the Lake District in England, and the person who took care of me recommended me for the position. After the recommendation, I was asked, "I recommended you, but, Kotobuki-san, are you interested in tennis?" (Laughs). At that time, I thought, "The order is reversed (laughs)!" But now I'm thinking, "I'm glad I checked after the fact!" Because, I would have declined the offer because "It might be difficult because I don't have knowledge of tennis...".
Earlier, I said, "There were times when I was struck by anxiety," but I've had a lot of fun every day since it started. I am grateful to those who recommended me.
――I was watching the broadcast on WOWOW every day, but most of the people there didn't wear masks. Please tell us about the recent situation in England.
Kotobuki: Looking at the current number of infected people in the UK, you will be scared. It's a nightmare for me, like last year's third lockdown. However, compared to that time, the number of seriously sick people has decreased considerably. So, by the time this article comes out, I think the regulations will have been completely lifted, and the day commonly known as "Freedom Day," will have arrived.
――In the last interview, you mentioned that you made a reservation for the vaccine, but on YouTube, you introduced in detail the physical condition after the vaccination.
Kotobuki: I received only one shot. In the UK, you have to wait at least 6 weeks till the second shot, so I'll receive it next month (August). Up to that point, I cannot neglect the rules. In the UK, there was news that the cases are increasing in which people who received the first shot, get too relaxed, and tend to be infected after.
――Let's take a look back at the state of England and the precious Wimbledon with photos.
■ Memories of Wimbledon, what I learned from an unfamiliar field
――It's Strawberry & Cream, which was introduced on YouTube. It looks pretty good, so I'm really curious about the taste.
Kotobuki: I imagined eating a strawberry with condensed milk, so I thought it was a little lacking in sweetness. However, the strawberries themselves are delicious enough to compensate for that! I've never eaten such a delicious strawberry in England. They use strawberries that were just picked in the morning in Kent.
――You also enjoyed shopping for tennis and children's clothing.
Kotobuki: I'm addicted to collecting Wimbledon goods (laughs). What I wear in this photo is the wear for the ball person (* the person who manages the ball) on the tennis court. It is by Ralph Lauren and it is so cute that I needed to buy it.
――What was your favorite thing to buy, and what do you recommend to those who will come to Wimbledon in the future?
Kotobuki: you can buy the used ball, the one that players actually used in the game, and I think it is something good to buy. It's valuable, it can be used as a souvenir, and it's cheaper than a new one! Although you never know who used it (laughs).
――Are there any people or things that you referred to during your reporter's job?
Kotobuki: Regarding the interview, I just remembered my interviews, in aspects such as "This was easy to answer", and "I was happy with this question." I'm interviewed by Anime!Anime! every month, so I thought, "I should have asked about things the interviewers are being careful of! " (Laughs).
Regarding the reports, I asked my good friend Kae Hiromi (a talent who is active in multiple fields such as actress and radio personality) over the phone. When I asked, "What do you value in reporting?", she said, "You have to talk with your face!" (Laughs). Of all the advice I received, the most memorable one was, "It's enough to think that live broadcasts and broadcasts will not go as planned." I usually work with a script, so I think I would have panicked if I didn't have it.
■ "Visit my brother's memories" in Cambridge
――This is Cambridge! It's a wonderful photo with flowers.
Kotobuki: I also like this one! But it is out of focus (laughs). My brother used to live in Cambridge, and I had been there at that time, but it was winter then, so no blooming flowers, and even no shopping during the New Year holidays. I'm glad I was able to visit Cambridge again at a right time.
――It was the long-awaited Cambridge. Where did you go for sightseeing?
Kotobuki: The photo shows a famous place called King's College Chapel, but other than this, it was a "visit my brother's memories". When I called my brother and asked, "Where should I go?", he said "I want to see Lloyds (bank)" and burst into laughter (laughs). When I arrived at the bank, we talked "I couldn't open an account at this bank", and added "What kind of tour is this !?" (laughs). But I'm glad I was able to do it for my brother.
■ How Kotobuki Minako enjoys sports
――You said you started playing tennis after Wimbledon tennis. How are you doing now?
Kotobuki: When I am asked how I'm doing, I feel as if I were a player (laughs). Before Wimbledon started, I went practicing there three times a week and was training thoroughly. I wanted to know what people like about tennis and knowing that I wanted to challenge Wimbledon. I wanted to learn early, so I asked a lot of questions about Japanese coaches, such as "What should I answer when asked?" and "What kind of ball is this?"
――Will you continue playing tennis after you return to Japan?
Kotobuki: I want to continue! I would like to prepare for next year's Wimbledon! (For sure!)
――Japan is currently in the midst of the Tokyo Olympics. Please tell us if there are any competitions that you are interested in or "how you enjoy sports" after going through Wimbledon.
Kotobuki: I like water sports, so I'm interested in surfing, which is a competition from this year. Also, since I used to be a swimmer, I always pay attention to swimming. What I thought because I experienced Wimbledon this time is that the more I know about the players, the more interesting it becomes. I think you will be deeply moved when you know what kind of feelings they have when they are fighting.
■ The first-ever voice actors' unit! Sphere's VR live concert
――It was announced that the first "VR live" will be held on August 22nd.
Kotobuki: It seems that this is the first attempt in history for a voice actors' unit to become 3D models and perform at a virtual live concert. Perhaps fans were thinking, "What will they do after the live event to perform all the songs!?" There is a full virtual debut! Once again, I was very grateful that I had to do it for the first time even after more than 10 years of activity.
――I'm very curious about what kind of live it will be.
Kotobuki: The girls drawn in the key visual will be singing and dancing in 3D. I'm really looking forward to it too! Moreover, I think one of the highlights is that everyone can enjoy in the front row.
I would like you to to enjoy the fresh feeling of the virtual live, and if you have experienced real Sphere live, I would like you to enjoy the difference. I would like you to feel the "Sphere circle" that we have created together in virtual space.
The new songs released by Sphere this year have not been performed live yet, so please look forward to what kind of setlist it will be. Also, there may be a new choreography by the dance leader Minako-sensei!! So check out it too!
――I'm looking forward to it!
