The winning works of “44th Japan Academy Film Prize”, to award the films that were released in Japan in 2020, have been announced on January 27, 2021. The 5 works, which were chosen for the Animation Awards, are “Violet Evergarden: The Movie”, “Poupelle of Chimney Town”, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train”, “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”, and
“STAND BY ME Doraemon 2”.

“Japan Academy Film Prize” is Japan’s film awards that was held annually since 1978 with the purpose of improving Japan’s film industry, technique, and technology.
This year is the 44th times, and due to the closing of the theatres due to the coronavirus, the nominated works are based on those that were released from December 16, 2019 to December 31, 2020 and satisfy the preliminary conditions.

The Animation Awards of “44th Japan Academy Film Prize” are “Violet Evergarden: The Movie”, “Poupelle of Chimney Town”, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train”, “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”, and
“STAND BY ME Doraemon 2”.
The Best Animation Awards, chosen within the 5 works, will be announced during the “44th Japan Academy Film Prize Ceremony”. Along with the announcement of the Animation Awards, comments from “Poupelle of Chimney Town” have been released.

Moreover, the animator and character designer Yasuhiko Yoshikazu was chosen for the Special Award from the Association.
“44th Japan Academy Film Prize Ceremony” will be held on March 19, in PAMIR International Convention Center, Grand Prince Hotel, Shin Takanawa.
