Five films directed by Takahata Isao, including “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya” and “Panda Kopanda,” will be played at the Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro, a cinema complex in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, for a limited time from August 11 to August 18, 2022.

Director Takahata made his name directing TV series such as “Heidi: Girl of the Alps” and “Anne of Green Gables” and has long been a leader in the Japanese animation industry along with Miyazaki Hayao. His works are still loved by fans around the world even after his death in April 2018.

This time, the “gdcs animation film special feature ‘anime! anime!! anime!!!’” will conduct a special screening of director Takahata’s feature films.
The lineup includes “Horus Prince of the Sun” (Takahata’s feature-length animation debut film,) “Panda Kopanda” and “Panda Kopanda: the Circus in the Rain” (both directed with Miyazaki), “Pom Poko,” and his last work, “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.” They have presented a lineup of classic titles that can be enjoyed by both parents and children as a special summer holiday program.

Some screenings will be held at Cinema Sunshine’s original premium theater, “BESTIA,” a 4K laser projection system that projects realistic and vivid images, and a 3D sound system that allows all sounds to exist as independent objects with no channel restrictions. The BESTIA is a premium theater that can create a sense of presence as if the audience has dived into the movie.

Cinema Sunshine Rewards members can purchase tickets from the official Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro website from 9 pm three days before the viewing date. General public tickets can be purchased from the same website from midnight two days before the viewing date. Tickets will be sold at the box office from the time the theater opens two days before the viewing date (only if seats are remaining.)
