“Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night” has finally premiered on October 30, 2021, and it had a great start by taking the top of the weekend box office & audiences ranking. At the same time, it was announced that the next work “Sword Art Online: Progressive – Scherzo of Deep Night” will premiere in 2022.
“Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night” is the film that depicts the “Aincrad Arc” from the perspective of Asuna and it is written by the original creator Kawahara Reki.
The third middle school girl, Yuuki Asuna, who is indifferent to online games, encountered the “NerveGear” by chance one day, and ended up being trapped in the world’s first VRMMOPRPG “Sword Art Online”.
Without knowing the rules of the world, Asuna headed out to conquer the metal floating fortress “Aincrad” and she encountered solitary swordsman Kirito after living through this world that is close to death…
This work that has finally premiered on November 30, has recorded a total audience of 225,221 people and 349,340,215 JPY in terms of the box office revenue on the first two days, which were on October 30 and 31, and had taken the top of the weekend box office & audiences ranking.
Also, it has a great start with an average of 1.5 million JPY per screening in term of the box office revenue, and a total of 233 screenings (inclusive of IMAX) were held in 196 theatres.
Also, it was announced that “Sword Art Online: Progressive – Scherzo of Deep Night” will premiere in 2022, which is the 10th anniversary year of the “Sword Art Online” TV series. Do look forward to the future announcements.
