As a way of showing love for anime characters, it is one of the common ways to celebrate their birthdays. Many of you may have seen someone holding a party with a cake surrounded by goods, or posting celebration illustrations on SNS.

Here, at Anime!Anime!, we conducted a readers’ survey titled ‘Whose birthday did you celebrate in August?’. The survey had been conducted from September 1 – 3, 2021, and we received 110 responses. The ratio of males to females was about 25% and 75%, with the majority of females. The age group was mainly young, with about 50% of respondents aged 19 or younger and about 30% in their 20s.

■Top 3 was occupied by the characters from the works that released its latest title in 2021!

1st Place

1st place went to Takasugi Shinsuke from “Gintama”. The support rating was about 10%.

Takasugi Shinsuke’s birthday is on August 10. He is the leader of an armed group Kiheita. As he used to learn at Shoka Sonjuku, he has known Sakata Gintoki and Katsura Kotarou for a long time. He played a major role in “Gintama: The Movie: The Final” that was released this year, which will be one of the reasons for his popularity.
6th place went to Shimura Shinpachi from “Gintama” as well. Shinpachi’s birthday is on August 12. He is a member of an all do shop Yorozuya Gin-chan. The two characters that are closely linked to Gin-chan made the list.

2nd Place

2nd place went to Iida Tenya from “My Hero Academia”.
Iida Tenya was born on August 22, and is the class representative of Class 1-A at U.A. High School. The three generations of his family have been heroes, and his hair that is parted on the right side of his head represents his diligent personality. His Quirk is Engine, which gives him incredible running speed.
From “My Hero Academia”, Toga Himiko was also ranked in 9th. She was born on August 7. The sole female member of the League of Villains gained popularity as well.

3rd Place

3rd place went to Yaotomo Gaku from “Idolish7”.

Yaotome Gaku is the leader of the TRIGGER, and was born on August 16. He is a popular idol that was ranked No.1 as “The Man Women Want to be Embraced by”, and he has passion contrary to his cool appearance. His gap of being kind to his friends attracted the readers and has been ranked in the top 3.

Top 3 of the birthday survey in August was occupied by the characters from the works that released its latest title in 2021.
Looking at the overall ranking, a few characters whose birthday is on August 8 have been ranked in. Tokito Muichiro from “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” that shared 6th place, and Joga Maya from “Is the Order a Rabbit?” and Yaku Morisuke from “Haikyu!!” that shared 9th place were born on August 8. As the day has two 8, which is known as a fortunate number and is easy to remember, many characters’ are set to be born on August 8.
