The culture of celebrating anime characters’ birthdays to show love has become familiar these days. There are many pictures on SNS that the fans surround the birthday cake with the character goods and the fans draw original illustrations for commemoration.
Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted the reader’s survey titled “Birthday of which character had you celebrated in May?”. A total of 204 readers answered the survey between June 1 to June 4. In the male-female ratio, the males made up approximately 15%, while the female readers made up approximately 85%. For the age group, the teenagers made up approximately 40%, and those in their 20’s made up about 30%.

1st Place
The 1st place goes to Katou Haru from “Fugo Detective Balance: UNLIMITED”. The support rating was approximately 25%.
Katou Haru is born on May 2. He used to be a detective at the division 1, but he is moved to the Modern Crime Prevention Task Force, a department thought to be unimportant. He then forms Koube Daisuke, also known as Fugo Detective, who enters the Metropolitan Police Department. He is a passionate man with a strong sense of justice. The anime was broadcast in 2020 and the character from the anime with originality ranked on the top.
2nd Place
The 2nd place is Hijikata Fuushirou from “Gintama”. The support rating was approximately 7%.
Hijikata Juushirou is born on May 5. He is the cool, handsome sub-leader for Shinsengumi, and he is unique in a way he loves mayonnaise. Tosshy, the another personality of Hijikata, appears in some episodes. The character from of the long-lasting series that released the last movie titled “Gintama THE FINAL” ranked high.
3rd Place
The 3rd place goes to Edogawa Conan/Kudou Shinichi from “Detective Conan”. The support rating was approximately 6%.
Conan was born on May 4. It experienced anime adoption in 1996, and the series continues to release episodes for 25 years. Due to its popularity, many fans know about his birthday. There are events held around his birthday. “Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet”, the 24th movie, is currently shown in the theaters.
Many characters born on May 5 ranked high in this ranking. May 5 is set for multiple characters, since it is the Children’s Day and can be remembered easily. There are many votes to Hijikata Juujirou from “Gintama”, Luffy from “ONE PIECE”, Tsukinaga Reo from “Ensemble Stars!”, and Nakano sisters from “The Quintessential Quintuplets”.
The results showed that some characters do have same birthdays.
