For three days between Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, many Japanese companies held booths at Southeast Asia’s largest anime event, 「C3AFA Singapore 2019」 in Singapore.
BANDAI NAMCO Entertainmentwith the largest booth area has participated from the very first year.”Gundam” plastic models, figures from works such as “Kimetsu no Yaiba” and “Dragonball” were on display and for sale. They even had test-plays for games of “One Punch Man”, “Sword Art Online”, etc.
For this company, Singapore is a place from which they can spread information to Southwest Asia, and they see this event as a trade fair to form marketing strategies. Every year, more and more people buy plastic models and figures in Singapore because the contents brought to Singapore through video streaming services gain the same popularity as they did in Japan.
The person in charge also said “Compared to before, we no longer have to think about whether the content fits the region or not beforehand, since people get excited just as much over what we bring over directly, so it’s made things easier to plan.”
In addition, female participants in this event have increased, so the opportunity to display figures popular with women, such as characters from “Kimetsu no Yaiba” and “Boku no Hero Academia” among others, have increased. In terms of the future, they said, “We initially started with Gundam and slowly increased the number of figures, games and display items, but now anime songs are also very popular, and since our company has such content, we want to bring them next time.”
