Director Katabuchi Sunao, known for “In This Corner of the World” and other films, just released footage of his next project. The director also briefly commented on it.
Katabuchi Sunao was involved in TV anime titles such as “Mike Lassie”, “Black Lagoon”, as well as anime films including “Kono Hoshi no Ue ni”, “Crete Hime”, “Mai Mai Shinko to Sennen no Mahou”, and won the 40th Japan Academy Award for Best Animation with In “This Corner of the World” among other accolades.
In 2019 the studio Contrail was inaugurated specially for producing Katabuchi’s next masterpiece.
This first teaser was released alongside the a call to arms announcement by Contrail, which began recruiting new talent. The footage features the new film’s storyboard and behind the scenes production inside the studio, giving us a taste of what is to be expected.

Katabuchi Sunao
It’s been already 5 years since we started preparations in 2017, and we finally entering the principal production stage. But before that, we created this video as a form of greeting the fans out there. This video also serves as the introduction of the footsteps taken by the young girl from a thousand years ago, after the events of “Mai Mai Shinko to Sennen no Mahou”.
