A crowdfunding started to make the film ‘Hand-Drawn: Documentary’, a documentary film that captures the current state of hand-drawn anime. Japan’s representative animators, such as Mamoru Hosoda and Mitsuo Iso will appear in the film.

‘Hand-Drawn: Documentary’ is a feature-length documentary film by Felicity Morland, a movie director in Canada. In search of a new direction of hand-drawn animation, the film features professionals in the anime industry worldwide, including Japanese animators.
While CG animation grows as mainstream in the North American film industry, ‘Hand-Drawn: Documentary’ explores the current state of hand-drawn animation in Europe and Japan through interviews with highly acclaimed animators around the world including Mamoru Hosoda, known for ‘Belle’ and ‘Summer Wars’, and Mitsuo Iso, known for ‘The Orbital Children’ and ‘Denno Coil’.

The crowdfunding for the post-production started on ‘MotionGallery’. The team aims to collect funds to complete the film and release it in Autumn 2022. Visit ‘MotionGallery’ for more details.
