We’re more than halfway through October.

Anime!Anime! has been conducting surveys about characters related to the number of the month. There are also many characters associated with the number 10 too, such as having the letter “十” in their name, having the number 10 for their uniform number, or being born on October 10.

We at Anime!Anime! conducted a readers’ survey asking “Which Character Does the Number 10 Remind You of?” There were 129 votes during the survey period from October 2 to October 9.
Most of the voters were female with a gender ratio of 25% male to 75% female, and the age range was on the younger side with 60% of them being under 20, and 20% in their 20s.

■Birthdays, uniform numbers, titles… Unique reasons for receiving votes!

1st Place

Tsunashi Ryuunosuke from “Idolish7” and Hinata Shouyou from “Haikyuu!!” topped the list with the same number of votes. They received about 18% of the votes.
Tsunashi Ryuunosuke is a member of the idol group TRIGGER. The characters from “Idolish7” have numbers in their names and Tsunashi Ryuunosuke’s family name is “十” (the kanji for ten). He received votes like “He’s a big brother type of character and the dialect that sometimes comes out is funny. By the way, his birthday is October 12, which also has a 10 in it.”

Hinata Shouyou is a member of the Karasuno High School volleyball team. “‘The Little Giant’ with the uniform number 10 of Karasuno High inspired Hinata to start volleyball in elementary school. Hinata being happy for getting the same number was memorable,” and “I think the number 10 not only represents Hinata but also the whole story of ‘Haikyuu!!’. I love the scene when he receives his uniform for the first time, he is jealous of Kageyama who got number 9 since it was a single-digit number.”

3rd Place

Coming in 3rd was Sakata Gintoki from “Gintama” with roughly 12% of the votes. He made the list for his birthday. “His motto is sugar! His birthday on October 10 is full of “Tou” (sugar in Japanese, which is the same sound as ten in Japanese),” is a comment that shows how the birthday is perfect for Gin-san who has a sweet tooth.
Hijikata Toushirou, a member of the Shinsengumi with the letter “十” in his name from the same title made it in 4th place.

■Here are some comments for other characters!!

For Kagami Taiga from “Kuroko’s Basketball”, “10 reminds me of the ace of Seirin, Kagami-kun’s uniform number! X, which stands for 10 in the Roman numeral, means unknown. It’s perfect for Kagami-kun who will endlessly grow to reach his goal to become an NBA player.”
For Akehoshi Subaru from “Ensemble Stars!”, “He likes shiny things, and often receives shiny 10-yen coins from the other members of Trickstar.”

For Sawada Tsunayoshi from “Reborn!”, “While fighting as the 10th Vongola boss, his kindness to value the lives of his friends over the group and his courage to stand up against the enemy even though he is usually cowardly is fascinating.”
There were also votes for the heroine of a romance anime. For Aida Miou from “Our love has always been 10 centimeters apart”, “It takes forever for the last 10cm between Haruki and her to close. I enjoyed watching the frustrating romance between them.”

In addition to names and uniform numbers, people voted in this survey for various reasons, such as being the tenth member to join an idol group or the tenth boss of a mafia group.
