October 29 is the day of kimonos.

The anniversary was established after the wordplay “Ii(1)Wa(0)Fu(2)Ku(9)”, which literally means “good kimonos”.

In anime and games, there are many characters who frequently wear traditional Japanese clothing, kimonos. The characters in kimonos show different tastes from those in Western clothes, which tends to leave impressions.

Therefore, Anime!Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “What character do you think looks good in a kimono?”. During the survey period from October 7 to 14, a total of 259 responses were received. For the gender ratio, the females were the majority with about 75% while the males were about 25%. For the age distribution, we received the majority of responses from the young readers: about 50% were from teens, and 30% were from those in their 20s.

■2nd place and below went to different characters from last year! Multiple characters are related to novelists.

1st Place

1st place went to Izumi Kyoka from “Bungo Stray Dogs”. The support rating was about 8%, and she is topping the list for two years in a row.

The fighting heroine has topped the list, and the received comments include, “She is cool when fighting in a kimono. The gap between her dry personality and her love for sweets and cute things is so cute”, and “Kyoka-chan’s red kimono looks even more beautiful through screens, which is impressive. It is also a notable point that her superhuman ability Demon Snow is wearing a kimono as well”.

From “Bungo Stray Dogs”, Fukuzawa Yukichi is also ranked in 12th place in a tie and received comments such as, “He has such president vibes that can lead unique employees of Armed Detective Agency”.

2nd Place

2nd place went to Takasugi Shinsuke from “Gintama”. The support rating was about 5%, and he made a great leap from 14th place in a tie that he got last year.

He is the leader of an armed group called Kiheitai. The comments received include, “As well as the women’s kimonos that he usually wears, he looks great in any type of kimonos, such as the one with simple patterns. He looks sexy”, and “He is a sexy man who looks good in fancy patterns of kimonos!”. From “Gintama”, Sakata Gintoki and Shimura Tae are also ranked in 4th place in a tie. This is an SF period drama, so there are many characters wearing kimonos.

3rd Place

3rd place went to Mouri Ran from “Detective Conan”. She is only one vote behind 2nd place, and she also made a great leap from 14th place in a tie that she got last year.
The comments for Ran, who usually wears her school uniform, include “Her wearing a kimono was featured in a calendar, which was so adorable. I want to see it in anime series”, and “She sometimes appears in kimonos, giving off fascinating matured vibes”.
As “Detective Conan” is a series that has been running for years, some fans mentioned her figures featured as goods.

“He is a novelist living in a Japanese-style house. Due to his aloof personality, his true feelings cannot be told. Such incomprehensible side matches his weird habit of wearing kimonos every day, so I immediately came up with him!”

Yumeno Gentaro “Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle”
“He dresses up like a raw student, which is very unique to novelists and impressive. He got mad when Izanami Hifumi referred to his fashion, so I thought he would be emotionally involved with the style.”

Araragi Tsukihi “‘Monogatari’ Series”
“There will be few junior high school students who usually wear a kimono because they like it. Her hairstyle changes in each title, which is also cute.”

Emilia “Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World”
“I cannot forget her cute figure in a kimono, which was featured on the collaboration illustration of AnimeJapan 2020.” The character wearing a kimono in a collaboration event, not in the main story, has also been ranked in.

In the survey 2021, although the same character remains in the top, 2nd place and below went to different characters from last year. It is also notable that a few characters have been ranked in from the same titles, such as “Bungo Stray Dogs”, “Gintama”, and “Detective Conan”.
