September 4 is Comb Day.

It was established because of the words play “Ku (9)” and “Shi (4)” (“Kushi” means “Comb” in Japanese), and the aim of this anniversary is to raise people’s awareness of cosmetology.

Recently, male characters with long hair are very popular in anime and games. There are various reasons for their long hair, such as being active as an idol, growing them for training, or growing them to the long life on the run. Among all those long-haired male characters, who is the one that captured hearts of the Anime!Anime! readers?

Here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted a reader survey entitled “Speaking of male characters with long hair, who comes to your mind?” We received responses from 421 people during the survey period from August 19 to August 26.
The male-female ratio is about 10% for males and about 90% for females. About 40% of the age group were teens, and about 40% were in their 20s.

■ Characters with black hair are in the top-3!

1st place

1st place goes to Katsura Kotarou from “Gintama” with an approval rating of about 18%.

Katsura Kotarou has straight black hair. Readers highly praised his beautiful long hair, “As a woman, I envy those long and silky hair. When it comes to a male character with long hair, he is the one!”, and “The long hair that flutters during fights are cool! He also looked great being dressed up as a woman.”
Some readers pointed on that even with a different hairstyle, the appeal remains the same, “In the Benisakura arc, his hair was cut short, but they still were wonderful”.

2nd place

2nd place goes to Baji Keisuke from “Tokyo Revengers” with an approval rating of about 7%.

Baji Keisuke was the captain of the First Division of Tokyo Manji Gang, and his wavy black semi-long hair is his special thing. Readers said that on the battlefield his hair looks even better, “He is usually cool, but the gap when he tied his hair tightly and got serious about fighting is great.”, and “I like how his hair tied in ponytail swinging.”
The character from the topical titles which is currently being broadcast is ranked high.

3rd place

3rd place goes to Izuminokami Kanesada from “Touken Ranbu: ONLINE” with an approval rating of about 5%.

Izuminokami Kanesada is a beloved sword that is said to had been used by Hijikata Toshizo, the deputy capitan of the Shinsengumi. Very long black hair that extends below knees is a trademark that fans love, “He’s fun to watch because there are a lot of variations of hairstyles such as straight in battle, side tail in inner turn, and ponytail on the gorgeous figure.”, and “The contrast between the red costume and the black hair is beautiful. Looks great on the tall person.”
