August 28 is “Violin Day”.
The anniversary was established as Matsunaga Sadajiro, a shamisen craftsman, developed the 1st violin made in Japan.
There are many characters related to violins in anime and other media. They are depicted in various ways as some of them are violinists that play beautiful sounds, and others fight against their enemies with violins or are violin craftsmen. Among them, who is the most impressive character?
Therefore, Anime!Anime! conducted a readers’ survey titled, ‘Speaking of “violin” characters, who comes to your mind?’. There were 347 votes during the survey period from August 11 to 18.
For the gender ratio, the females were the majority with about 75% while the males were about 25%. For the age distribution, we received the majority of responses from readers of young ages: about 45% were teens, and about 30% were in their 20s.
■Violinists, idols, and even detectives have ranked in!
1st Place
1st place went to Miyazono Kaori from “Your Lie in April”. The support rating was about 13%.
The received comments for the 9th grade-violinist Miyazono Kaori include, “Kao-chan’s violin performance sounds free and happy. The fascinating performance is the best charm more than anything” and “I was moved by the human drama that a pianist Arima Kosei’s life begins to change after he listens to the unconventional and free performance”. Her performance that directly shows her innocent personality is the reason for her popularity
2nd Place
2nd place went to Kurusu Syo from “Uta no Prince-sama”. The support rating was about 12%.
The received comments for Kurusu Sho belonging to ST☆RISH include, “Each member of ‘Uta-Pri’ is good at some instrument, and Sho is good at a violin. The gap between his strong arm while playing and his cute looking is irresistible!” and “His solo songs have a violin accompaniment, and I met a wide variety of songs, from cute songs that represent the Sho-chan style, to cool ones that I get engrossed in listening to”. Many fans seem to have been surprised by an unexpected side of cheerful Sho.
3rd Place
3rd place went to Kudou Shinichi from “Detective Conan”. The support rating was about 10%.
The comments received include, “It is funny that Shinichi can play the violin as Sherlock Holmes played it as well, even though Shinichi is not good at singing. I am curious about his ‘odd playing habit’ that Ran-chan says” and “I was surprised that he has perfect pitch and can play the violin although he is not good at singing”. He gained popularity due to his unexpected side as well.
■Let’s introduce other comments!!
Yashio Rui “BanG Dream!”
“He is the sole violin player in the ‘BanG Dream!’ project. A fusion of band sound and violin is characteristic of Morfonica.”

“I was enchanted by his beautiful figure while playing the violin, and I found myself always following him with my eyes… When I hear the word violin, Tsukimori-kun immediately comes to my mind!”
Sherlock Holmes “Moriarty the Patriot”
“As he usually speaks and behaves in a rough manner, I was surprised when I first saw the scene where he plays the violin.”
Minamoto Shizuka “Doraemon”
