Who is your favorite teacher character? 3rd place went to Anzai-sensei from ‘SLAM DUNK’, 2nd place went to Yoshida Shoyo from ‘Gintama’, and 1st place went to someone called “a perfect model as a teacher”

March 24 is the ‘day of teacher’.

It was established as graduation ceremonies are held at many schools on March 24. Many of us would have learned something important for our lives as well as studying.

In anime and games, there are many teacher characters that take other characters in the right direction. They are depicted in various ways such as reforming a villain, handing down a skill to new generations, or helping other people in daily life.

So, here at Anime!Anime!, we conducted the annual reader survey titled ‘Who is your favorite teacher character?’. During the survey period from March 8 to March 15, a total of 175 responses were received. For the gender ratio, the females are the majority with about 70% while the males are about 30%. For the age distribution, we received the majority of responses from the readers of younger ages: about 60% are from minors, and 20% are in their twenties.

■Koro-sensei from “Assassination Classroom” has been ranked 1st for consecutive 2 years. Some readers call him a perfect model as a teacher.
1st place
1st place went to Koro-sensei from “Assassination Classroom”. The support rating is about 20%, and he has been ranked 1st for 2 years in a row.

The comments for Koro-sensei, who is the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School, include, ‘He is always trying his best for his students, and a perfect model as a teacher. He is the best teacher, but he has many weaknesses, which I like about him even though he is an assassination target’, ‘He faces each of his students seriously, which is impressive. He can improve each student’s strong and weak sides. He never denies each student’s personality, dream, or opinion, which makes them grow up as a student and an individual. He is a great teacher’.
Such a mysterious setting is also attractive that he is an assassination target even though in spite of being a good teacher.

2nd place
2nd place went to Yoshida Shoyo from “Gintama”. The support rating is about 18%, and he has also been ranked 2nd as last year.

He got many votes as he developed the main characters. The comments for him include, ‘He told his thoughts, and taught swordplay to many children at Shoka Sonjuku, including Gintoki, Katsura, and Takasugi, and developed them into great swordmen’, and ‘He told Gin-san the way he lives, and influenced his life a lot’. Some readers left comments about the scenes of “Gintama: The Final”.

3rd place
3rd place went to Anzai Mitsuyoshi from “SLAM DUNK”. The support rating is about 10%. He was ranked 3rd in a tie last year, but he made it alone this year.
The comments for Anzai-sensei, a coach of the Shohoku basketball team, include ‘His trademark saying “If you give up, the game is already over.” is the most famous saying ever! I wanted to join the team with a coach like him’, and ‘I think Shohoku members enjoyed practicing better as Anzai-sensei was leading them. I like the relationship with Mitsui’. The popular work, whose latest animated film is scheduled to be produced, has been raked high.

‘He has been teaching what battles are, skills, spirit, and everything to the members that battle against the Demon King Hadlar. His lessons lead the protagonist until the end’. The readers voted for a character of a title that is currently on air.

On this survey, many school teacher characters are ranked. Also, “Assassination Classroom”, “Hell Teacher Nube”, and “Ultimate Otaku Teacher” are ranked, where the main characters are all teachers.
