Which Autumn 2020 Anime Female Character Did You Fall in Love With at First Sight? Elaina from “Wandering Witch” Takes 2nd Place with a Few Votes Shy of the Top

There were even more titles than the first half of the year for the 2020 Autumn anime. Various works, including original titles and sequels of popular series, are broadcast in this period. And the unique characters spice up these shows.

From the faces of each title to supporting characters, who have a stronger presence than the main characters. The Autumn anime is filled with fascinating characters. Many of you may have your favorite character, who you fell in love with at first sight.

We at Anime!Anime! conducted a survey asking, “Which Autumn 2020 Anime Character Did You Fall in Love With at First Sight?”. Applicable titles are any anime that started its broadcast/streaming during the period of September to November 2020. There were 1,486 votes received during the voting period from November 15 to 22.
The gender ratio tilted to female with 60% female to 40% male, and the age range was on the younger side with 65% under 19 and 20% in their 20s.

Let’s take a look at the results for female characters.

■”Jujutsu Kaisen” tops the list, as it did in the male character ranking.
1st Place
Topping the list was Kugizaki Nobara from “Jujutsu Kaisen” with roughly 8% of the votes.

Kugizaki Nobara is a freshman at Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College. Fans love her straightforward personality and said, “She has a great taste in fashion and has a beautiful face that comes with a manly spirit! I also love how she goes along with the comedy scenes!”, “I respect her strong will and self-assurance as a person of the same sex,” and “She’s strong-minded girl, and is like a big sister! I love the gap between her personality and taste for fashion and shopping.”
She was also popular for the dancing in the ending animation and received this comment, “Seto Masami-san’s voice was perfect for Nobara-chan, who is beautiful and comical at the same time. Her buns in the ending are so cute!”.
Many female fans voted for her.

2nd Place
Coming in 2nd was Elaina from “Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina” with a few votes shy of the top position.

Elaina is a witch traveling around the world. Her confident personality is popular and received comments such as, “She’s a diligent and intellectual witch, but also has a playful side. Her talent for magic is also amazing. I’d love to go on an adventure like Elaina’s”, and “She is absolutely confident of herself, has a sharp tongue, and is a bit of a trashy person. But she’s kind to those she meets, even if she’s not honest to them. I fell in love with her character.”
Her line, “Yes, it’s me” also leaves a strong impression.

3rd Place
Taking 3rd place was Princess Syalis from “Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle” with roughly 4% of the votes.

Princess Syalis is a princess that fights for a good night’s sleep in the demon castle. “I’ve never heard of a protagonist, who risks their life for sleep,” is a comment that shows how fans were surprised by the character devoting herself to get a good night’s sleep. There were also fans who were surprised by the personality of the character, saying, “I thought the gap between her expressionless, flat voice and her aggressiveness towards sleeping was very cute,” and “How she is willing to do anything for her sleep and causes trouble for the monsters is so precious.”

For Moroha from “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon”, “Her personality full of both charms of her parents, Inuyasha and Kagome, is so cute,” and “I love how she inherited the strength of both her parents.”
For Yuna from “Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear”, “Her looks have such a strong impact!”, and “I love how she’s strong and fluffy.”

For Hina from “The Day I Became a God”, “Though she has a plain old name, Satou, and is very childish, I fell for her cute looks.”
There were also votes for a character from an original title, Komagome Azuzu from “Warlords of Sigrdrifa”, “In addition to classic tsundere, how she’s incompetent in everything except intelligence is so cute. I fell in love when she kicked at the soccer ball and missed.”

“Jujutsu Kaisen” also topped the list for the female characters, but the votes were spread out more than the male character ranking, leading to a wider spread of titles making the list. The Autumn anime of 1 cour are reaching their final phases. Let’s not miss how all these heroines are going to end up!
