“Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -” is the theatrical version of Netflix's original anime series “Japan Sinks 2020”, where the restructured and 5.1ch surround sound is handled by director Yuasa Masaaki, and it will be released nationwide on Nov. 13. The poster's visual and the comments from director Yuasa Masaaki was revealed as well.
“Japan Sinks 2020” is the first anime adaptation of the popular same name novel of Komatsu Sakyou, the famous novelist in Japan Science Fiction industry. While maintaining the theme “The people's identity that was lost along with the country” of the original work that had been published in 1973, the story takes place in Japan in Japan on 2020 and it used a daring setting, which shows the unforeseen disaster from the perspective of a normal family.
It used the fantasy-like element of the anime and an extremely calm perspective that depicts the actual situation that we are facing in the real world such as the grand disaster that appear out of nowhere, races and nationality, various people from different generation and holding different thoughts, and also the internet culture.
It becomes a “work that must be told” as it reflects the sensibility of the audience. However, after the broadcast, there are people who agreed and disagreed on this work in the SNS and it had taken the first place in the nationwide broadcast ranking for few continuous days.
“Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -“, that was decided to be released nationwide, is a restructered of all the ten broadcasted episode, which is filled with various modern world problems. Director Yuasa Masaaki will squeeze the information into a single movie, and the sinkage of Japan in the Reiwa period will surely be something new in terms of the theme and time setting.
Toward the sinkage of Japan, where will the people head to, and how will we respond toward that? Do check out the “story of reality and resuscitation” at the screen, about the people who are pushing toward the ultimate answer without any choice to the future that is connected to their life.
In the poster's visual, it depicts the grand scale of the sunrise at the sunken Japan with Mt. Fuji at the back unlike the visual of the normal Mutou families that are struggling during the disaster, which was the focus during the TV broadcast.
The grand theme of “the hope that arises after the loss of Japan” can be felt after watching all the episode of the TV broadcast.
Regarding “Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -“, Director Yuasa Masaaki commented, “I felt that I had betrayed by the audiences and this is also a difficult obstacle that I need to overcome just like the character from this work. Do check it out at the theatre.”
Will this be the answer toward those who agreed and disagreed that appeared during the broadcast and will there more argument coming out after this? Do check out it at the theatre yourselves.
“Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -” will be released Japan nationwide on Nov. 13, 2020.

The audio made by 5.1ch during the dubbing of episode 1 came out good, so I had thought that it would be a waste if this was not seen in a good environment. When the broadcast started, we had received a lot of criticism that arises because most of the audiences couldn't figure out the hidden meaning behind it. So, I felt that I had betrayed by the audiences and this is also a difficult obstacle that I need to overcome just like the character from this work. Do check it out at the theatre.

Ueda Reina as CereCere
When I got the role, I felt a lot of pressure, but at the same time, I was very happy. I spent almost every day of my childhood watching my favorite episodes of the Sailor Moon DVD my mother bought me, and I remember enjoying the feeling of as if I was a Sailor Guardian myself. I still have vivid memories of many scenes. With those childhood memories of being absorbed in Sailor Moon, I did my best to deliver those feelings I had back then.
CereCere-san looks very feminine, soft, glamourous, and sometimes shows the cool side of her confident self. I tried to perform her with a soft and fluffy cheerfulness. Above all, I feel that the four members of Amazones Quartet, including CereCere-san, have received a lot of love from many people and kept polishing their characters. We did our best to bring out their personalities and charm. Please look forward to the film.
Moroboshi Sumire as PallaPalla
Sailor Moon is known by everyone, and many people have loved it from even before I was born. I myself was hooked on this Sailor Moon Famicom game I had as a child. When I got the role, I felt honored, but at the same time, I felt the responsibility and nervousness that I needed to put my mind to it. I was fascinated by her charm when I watched the early footage of PallaPalla to get ready for the audition, and I really wanted to get this role, so I was very glad that my wishe came true.
She is the youngest sister of the Amazoness Quartet, so I tried to express her childishness and innocence, and make her a loveable villain. She speaks like a child, her facial expressions change constantly, and she is very emotional. I tried my best to portray this personality and charm of hers in my own way. Please look forward to the film!
Hara Yuuko as JunJun
I loved Sailor Moon so much that when I was a child, I wore a costume the whole day pretending to be Sailor Moon. I was so glad to hear the results of the audition. I couldn't believe that I'm going to be in such a popular work, and I was anxious until I received the script. And I felt surprised again when I got the script, haha.
My character JunJun is a bit rough but is a very passionate character. I did my best to portray her devotion along with her strength. Also, JunJun and the Amazoness Quartet is a circus group, so I hope we can express them as a fun group.
It's very exciting work, so please enjoy it at the theaters!
Takahashi Rie as VesVes
The first game I ever became obsessed with was based on "Sailor Moon S". The BGM and screen of decorating cakes and dressing up the characters are still etched in my mind. I never thought I would be part of Sailor Moon. Attending the audition itself was an honor, so I was surprised and delighted.
VesVes has impressing beautiful red hair, wields a whip, and tames beasts. I tried to express her dominant character along with her passionate and feminine sides.
I cherish the opportunity I've been given, and the cast of the Amazoness Quartet worked as one to take on this challenge! I'm looking forward to seeing them move, talk, and stir up the story. Please look forward to it!

"Happy-Go-Lucky Days" will premiere on Oct. 23, 2020, in nationwide theaters.
<Full comments are as below>
Hanazawa Kana (as Ecchan)
I'm so glad that the film is finally being released. I hope girls with lives full of surprises who never give up will warm your hearts in these unpredictable days. Please enjoy!
Komatsu Mikako (as Aya-san)
Each episode gives you a different impression of the title "Happy-Go-Lucky Days". They all seem to be everyday events, but they're a fine part of each person's life. I love the warm, delicate mood that almost melts in your mouth. I did my best to express that mood in the story of "Ecchan and Aya-san". The frustrating relationship is somehow endearing. They have their "past" in common, their "present" begins when they meet, and I wish for their "future" to be peaceful and happy. Please enjoy this distinct vibe of this film at the theaters.
Sakurai Takahiro (as Sawa-sensei)
This quaint piece of work has a distinct vibe, and it gives me a sense of the unordinary in an ordinary day. It's like looking through a pale veil into human nature with your eyes squinted. I hope to share this experience with you. Please enjoy.
Yamashita Seiichirou (as Yagasaki-kun)
I'm glad that the release date has been decided. A lot of things happened to this day. As the film says, I believe the "Happy-Go-Lucky" spirit pulled us through, and the time we had to wait makes me even more excited to watch the film.
I think this film will give each person different impressions, so I hope you will cherish your own perspective.
Thank you for your support.
Kido Ibuki (as Shin-chan)
Thank you for your patients! The release date has been decided! I think a movie is not complete until people watch it, so I can't wait for you to visit the theaters. Whether you're a fan of the original work or not, it's easy to dive into the world of this film.
The entire cast and staff put their love into this film. Please accept our love!
Ishihara Kaori (as Mika-chan)
The film "Happy-Go-Lucky Days" will finally be released. I've been looking forward to this day for so long. It depicts love in various forms. While working on episodes 3 and 4, and watching episodes 1 and 2, I realized again how deep and wonderful love is. It's a very heart-warming film. Please enjoy it at the theaters.
Fairouz Ai (as Sayoko)
The release date of "Happy-Go-Lucky Days" has finally been decided! It's quite a unique and fascinating work so I'm already excited to see how everyone will feel about it. The acting, drawings, and music are full of love. I hope you can feel the beautiful, yet painful emotion of the characters!
Hayami Saori (as Yuri)
I enjoyed the slow, gentle mood that reminds me a bit of the sadness in my heart during the recordings. I'll never forget the director telling me to be myself and take it easy. It's an omnibus, so please enjoy each story and the characters living in them.
Shimazaki Nobunaga (as Tanabe-kun)
The characters give me a sense of reality, making me think that there's someone out there in the real world who lives like this. But at the same time, I fell like I'm peaking into the unordinary. The film has a unique fascination. Each person that watches it will probably have completely different impressions about it, and I'm interested in what everyone will feel. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me your opinion.
Tamura Mutsumi (as Yoriko-san)
The first story I got to read the manga was the story about Yoriko-san and Tanabe-kun, and it was quite shocking. Though this story is not in the film, I enjoyed the selected stories, which were all shocking, yet have the sense of an ordinary event that could happen any day. I wonder if this would be what I'd see if I could look into everyone's hearts. People have various sides that are hard to talk about, and the stories have a sense of relief and excitement. I hope you will enjoy these stories along with the heart-warming pictures at the theaters.
Amasaki Kouhei (as Shin-chan's father)
Working on this film, I felt that drama happens in our ordinary lives. And it's because we all have had a similar experience that the ordinary stories leave a strong impression on us. I think "Happy-Go-Lucky Days" delicately showss the "ordinary".
I'm sure the film will have a stunning moment for every one of you. Please enjoy it at the cinema!
Shiraishi Ryouko (as Shin-chan's mother)
I started to get used to life in Tokyo in my early 20s. At a book store, I bought this manga with a cover and title that drew my attention, and it was a work by Shimura Takako-sensei.
It was by accident that I got hooked on Shimura Takako-sensei's works, and I just kept reading more and more. I never thought the day would come that I would be voicing a character from her work. You never know what will happen in your life. It was a very wonderful experience. I did my best to keep the exciting vibe that is like a piece cut out of each of our lives. I'm looking forward to seeing "Happy-Go-Lucky Days" with motion, color, and sound! I'm glad that the release date has been decided. I can't wait for you to watch it.

The theme song of the Netflix Original Anime Series title, "Japan Sinks: 2020", is set to be "a life", a song written and composed by Onuki Taeko and Sakamoto Ryuichi.
Accompanying that, Director Yuasa Masaaki reveals a gem of an image from the opening that slightly differs from the rest of the show. We have also received comments from Onuki Taeko, Sakamoto Ryuichi, Director Yuasa Masaaki as well as Producer Zushi Kensuke.
"a life" is the debut song that was used to announce the release of "UTAU", a joint album from Onuki Taeko and Sakamoto Ryuichi in 2010. The song is coined as 'timeless' for its lyrics that weave together a sense of a peaceful daily life and evokes memories, the soft and gentle singing, and its delicate yet strong piano melodies.
With "a life" echoing as "Japan Sinks: 2020"'s Opening, the images are drawn in a different style compared to the main show and appears in the form of watercolor, painted with a delicate touch. It shows the scenery from the beginning of the Budou family.
Director Yuasa Masaaki commented on "a life", stating that it had "a feeling of transparency and daily life but was also a grounded and wonderful song". He commented on the opening image as well, describing it to be "a bright contrast to the bleak and dark setting of the main movie, it evokes a sense of respect to the loss of daily routine that we see every day on bright and peaceful mornings. The morning light, soft futon, warm drinks, scenic nature, and close-ups of small animals. These are all drawn with a sense of transparency in white light, overlapping like fragmented memories with a soft touch."
"Japan Sinks: 2020" is an anime that depicts a sudden loss of daily life, with characters thrust into a terrible reality. They slowly rise up to each obstacle, reviving hope. The timeless song "a life" vividly accompanies the story, giving viewers a sense of strength and guidance to carry on.
The Netflix Original Anime Series "Japan Sinks: 2020" is set to broadcast world-wide from 9 Jul. 2020 onward.
<Here are the comments below>
"Onuki Taeko (Lyrics & Song) - Thoughts on the theme song"
I believe that facing reality without blaming it on anyone, having the right attitude, and working on myself will help the "me" in the future. There is no change to my singing itself but, I want to live to the fullest with a brand new perspective and sing for people's sake moving onward.
"Sakamoto Ryuichi (Composer) - Thoughts on the theme song"
We understand how precious daily life is, that we often take for granted.
"Yuasa Masaaki (Director) - Regarding the theme song and the production of the opening image"
It was a wonderful song that was grounded, yet had a sense of transparency and a hint of daily life. The image is a bright contrast to the bleak and dark setting of the main movie, it evokes a sense of respect to the loss of daily routine that we see every day on bright and peaceful mornings. The morning light, soft futon, warm drinks, scenic nature, and close-ups of small animals. These are all drawn with a sense of transparency in white light, overlapping like fragmented memories with a soft touch.
"Zushi Kensuki (Producer) - Reason for picking the song"
"a life" had the same perspective that synchronized with "Japan Sinks: 2020"'s theme. It was a song that inspired limitless imagery when I listened to it. Director Yuasa's story depicts a forward-looking, strong group of people that stand in the face of adversary despite losing peaceful days, family and friends, and their country. Coupled with "a life", a song featuring Sakamoto Ryuichi's beautiful composition and Onuki Taeko's clear voice that "inspires strength within the heart to overcome", I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy this wonderful collaboration. I hope from the bottom of my heart that our world will become one full of kindness, overflowing with laughter, and smiles.

It was announced that Watanabe Naomi will be acting the role of Zirconia in the movie "Sailor Moon Eternal". Also, Watanabe left various comments such as, "I think she is the character that most fits me".
"Sailor Moon Eternal" is a story of love and justice by Takeuchi Naoko, which was serialized in "Nakayoshi" from 1991 to 1997; in 2012, a project to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the series started, and in 2014, a new series titled "Sailor Moon Crystal" has been released.
It has been decided that Watanabe Naomi will play the role of Zirconia, a powerful enemy of the Sailor Guardians. Comments about her impressions on the role of Zirconia, who is the ringmaster of Dead Moon Circus plotting to conquer the Earth and the Moon and pledging her loyalty to Nehellenia, the Queen of the Dead Moon, as well as her love for "Sailor Moon", have arrived.
The movie "Sailor Moon Eternal" will be released in two parts; the first part will be released on Jan. 8, 2021, and the second part will be released on Feb. 11, 2021.
Comment by Watanabe Naomi (as Zirconia)
I never dreamed that I could appear in my favorite series "Sailor Moon", so I was extremely happy! For me, Sailor Moon is the "light of my life". I've loved it since I was a child, and just watching all the Sailor Guardians makes me crying, and I still love it so much that I keep buying all kinds of items.
When I was offered the role, I wondered if it was for a new Sailor Guardian. But it was Zirconia as the antagonist (laugh). She's a villain and an old woman character, so I had to lower my voice quite a bit and do it while almost crushing my throat. Even though my heart hurts, I made sure Zirconia's feelings were felt in my acting, "I'll defeat the Sailor Guardians!". I think she is the character that most fits me so far.
In the movie, you can see the cool Sailor Guardians, as well as many powerful enemies. It's a work that not only our generation but also parents and their children and teenagers will be able to enjoy! I hope you're all excited and looking forward to it!

The manga "Umibe no Étranger" (by Kii Kanna and published by Shodensha), which takes place on the island off the coast of Okinawa and depicts the innocent love story between a greenhorn novelist and a young boy, had captured the hearts of many people and the theatrical anime is handled by the BL anime Label "BLUE LYNX". Since this movie was released on Sep. 11, 2020, let's reviews the work beforehand.
The greenhorn novelist, Shun unexpectedly called out to the young boy, Mio at the beachside.
---"Hey, you there!"
Because of that Mio had also started to be conscious of Shun, but he has to leave the island no matter what. Mio left after saying "I want to become an adult as soon as possible".
After three years, Mio returns to Shun. He had become slightly mature. With an innocent bright smile. When the unrequited thoughts were responded, the stopped time starts to run again...
The work is based on the manga "Umibe no Étranger" (published by Shodensha) by Kii Kanna.
This anime adaptation is supervised by the author Kii Kanna, who is also an ex-animator, and she is also in charge of the character design.
The animation production was created with a mixture of 2D and 3D animation and is handled by the long-established studio "Studio Hibari", who is known for "Major", and "Monster Strike". The director is Oohashi Akiyo, who had shown her superb skill such as "Danganronpa The Animation" as well as the animation PV for the sales commemoration of "Houseki no Kuni" Vol 1.
The drama between the characters, the beautiful nature of Okinawa, the lights, coloring, and the audio are all drawn carefully with fixation.
This work is the third work of the BL specialized anime Label "BLUE LYNX" after "Twittering Birds Never Fly: The clouds gather" and "Given the Movie".
■Original Work's Arts Exhibition
The movie "Umibe no Étranger"'s Anime Art Exhibition was held on PARCO GALLERY X, Shibuya, Tokyo. (Duration: Sep. 4, 2020 ~ Sep. 14, 2020)
The exhibition has exhibited over 30 illustrations, including the setting arts, rough drawing, and 5 original illustrations drawn for this movie along with the messages from the casts & staff, the signed scripts, the storyboard drawn by the director Oohashi Akiyo, and others.
Moreover, the art exhibition's original goods with the illustration by Kii Kanna-sensei were on sale.
The main casts will be handled by the same voice actors as the drama CD. Hashimoto Shun is voice by Murata Taishi (known for his role as Norba Shino from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" and Magee from "Gundam Build Divers") while Tachibana Mio is voice by Matsuoka Yoshitsugu (known for his role as Kirito from "Sword Art Online" and Hashibira Inosuke from "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba").
Murata Taishi (voice of Hashimoto Shun)
--Can you share your feelings when the theatrical anime adaptation of "Umibe no Étranger" was decided, as well as when your role was decided and when you were reading the script?
Various thoughts appear in my mind. My appreciation of continues this role from the drama CD and the expectation toward the movie. Above all, I am glad that I am able to perform the encountering scene of Mio. Both of their fates were greatly affected, while Mio is slowly becoming more mature, Shun, on the other hand, is struggling like a loser. At the very beginning when I was voicing the drama CD, this scene was impressive and made my heart throb. Even the scripts are filled with the "Étranger" of the production staff, especially the stage direction as well as the lines...! So, I wanted to respond it with all I have along with the burning obsession that is gradually growing as I wanted everyone to see it right away (haha).
--This works is supervised by Kii Kanna-sensei, who is also the character designer, and she was also greatly involved with the production. Can you tell us any highlights?
I personally like the comical expression that was illustrated by Kii Kanna sensei, so I hope it can calm everyone down. During the recording, I remember that it was quite easy in voicing the character as the transition of the character expression from serious to comical was exactly as the manga.
Above everything, the combination between Okinawa and the cat is the best. It a fusion of the spaciousness scenery of the southern island with cuteness. This is the ideal retirement life. Please watch it while thinking about Okinawa and cat.

Please enjoy watching the movie while letting your emotions run wild and being immersed in the gentle setting of Étranger. I believed there are surely parts were first-timers of Étranger can understand mutually. Please look forward to "Umibe no Étranger"!

--Can you share your feelings when the theatrical anime adaptation of "Umibe no Étranger" was decided, as well as when your role was decided and when you were reading the script?
Even though it had been a while since the first drama CD, I still remember Murata-san mentioning that he wanted to see the animation adaptation during the talk part in the drama CD.
At first, I thought it was a joke but I believed that Murata-san is quite glad that the theatrical adaption was decided.
I am genuinely happy when I heard about my role.
However, I am actually scared since this is my first time voicing a BL role in animation.
When I was reading the script, I thought that it had ended splendidly from the start till the end. Then, my memory during the recording of the drama cd resurfaced, which helps me to enter my role easily!
--As this works is supervised by Kii Kanna-sensei, who is also the character designer, and she was also greatly involved with the production. Can you tell us any highlights?
I was thinking about how to express the sadness of the Mio as the story contains the emotional period of the lonely Mio, but the art has helped me to express it without being too immersed in it. It as if I was drawn in by the beautiful art!
Feeling such as "I want to go to this world at least once!", "I want to travel to there!", “I want to go to the beach!", and "Mugii!” appears inside of me (haha).
I think everyone will get immersed in it as well, so do enjoy the world of Étranger.

-Please tell us how you felt when your appearances as the Ethan in the Japanese version of "Dragon's Dogma" was decided.
I was dubbing Pawns in the game, so I thought I'll be aawn. I was surprised when I heard what role I got.
If it's a pawn, it's a system that allows you to choose a role from quite a few different variations, so it may have been more difficult than having me play Ethan in this film in a different way.
