The story takes place in 2010 where Taichi has grown up and is now a college student; Yamato (Matt) and the other chosen children are also heading their own way to adulthood. Mysterious incidents surrounding the chosen children start happening which was caused by an unknown digimon “Eosmon”. Digimon researcher Menoa, voiced by Matsuoka Mayu, appears revealing to them the shocking truth that “the Digimon partners of the chosen children disappear as they grow up into adults.”
To the sound of the timeless music “Butter-Fly” from Wada Koji, the movie outlines a difficult choice that Taichi and Yamato will have to make; in order to rescue their comrade, they must fight but a reckless battle will inevitably shorten the little time they have together. How will the protagonists deal with the challenge ahead and what kind of “Final Evolution” will they arrived at?
The movie poster displays the chosen children alongside their Digimon partners, plus Menoa and Imura on Odaiba's coast, where the story will take place.
In the poster, Taichi and others smiles almost as if they was saying one last goodbye to the fans who have been supporting the franchise for 20 years. A befitting poster for a series finale.
