The anime film “Feast of Amrita” directed by Sakamoto Saku, which was officially exhibited at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, began rental and download sales on January 20, 2024. Additionally, “Aragne: Sign of Vermillion -Refined Edition-,” another anime film by Director Sakamoto that was officially exhibited at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, became available for unlimited streaming on the same day. In commemoration, Director Sakamoto’s latest short anime film, “Calabi-Yau no Sukima” (lit. “The Gap of Calabi-Yau”), announced its production along with a teaser visual.
“Calabi-Yau no Sukima” is the latest work of Director Sakamoto, who nearly single-handedly produced “Feast of Amrita” and “Aragne: Sign of Vermillion.”
Calabi-Yau refers to a six-dimensional world (Calabi-Yau manifold) that is imperceptible to humans, and it appeared in a line by Yuu, a classmate of the heroine Tamahi in “Feast of Amrita”, as a keyword to solve the mystery of the distorted space.
The teaser visual depicts a girl standing alone in a wrecked classroom, with a large cracked egg in the background, suggesting the birth of a bug (monster), and the ominous silhouette casting a shadow in the foreground creates a sense of eerie disquietness.
Though this is his first film to be set in a school, the giant apartment complex familiar from the previous two works can be seen through the classroom window.
The girl turning around has an impressive gaze of determination and strong will, hinting at a new type of heroine figure.
Similar to “Feast of Amrita” and “Aragne: Sign of Vermillion,” Director Sakamoto single-handedly takes on five roles in the production: director, animation production, original author, scriptwriter, and music, handling all production processes except for voice recording and sound effects. As of now, details other than the title and that it’s a short animation film have not been revealed. Producer Fukutani Osamu of Zelico Film commented, “We’ve intentionally not set a release date or the length of the film yet, as we want Director Sakamoto to put his full effort in until he feels satisfied with the production. We apologize to everyone interested. Please wait a little longer for the completion. We will announce the latest information as it becomes.” available.
Let’s look forward to further details on this project.
