It has been revealed that the special exhibition “Space Battleship Yamato: Complete Record Exhibition” planned and produced by Anno Hideaki will be held at Seibu Shibuya Store from March 15th to 31st, 2025 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the broadcast of “Space Battleship Yamato”. In addition to the exhibition of valuable materials, original goods for the special exhibition will be available. A comment from Anno has also arrived.
“Space Battleship Yamato: Complete Record Exhibition” is a special exhibition planned and produced by Anno, who says, “If I hadn’t encountered ‘Space Battleship Yamato,’ I wouldn’t be who I am today,” in cooperation with the Anime Tokusatsu Archive Centre (ATAC), and will exhibit valuable, never-before-seen original drawings and setting materials that can only be seen here.
From the unreleased project proposal to various setting materials, background art, and animation cels, the exhibition takes us through the 26 episodes of the TV series’ 296,000-light-year voyage. It will allow visitors to relive the work and experience the origins and appeal of a masterpiece that built the foundation of anime history.
In addition to paper materials, another highlight is the history of “Space Battleship Yamato” introduced in a large-scale chronological table, from the first Yamato in 1974 to the remake series currently being released in theaters. There will also be exhibits of records from that time, nostalgic items, and a model of the giant Yamato battleship.
2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the Showa era, and this special exhibition, which touches on the history of Yamato and the memories of the Showa era, will allow many anime fans across generations to have a deeply moving experience.
To commemorate the “Space Battleship Yamato: Complete Record Exhibition” and the 50th anniversary of Yamato, limited original products will be sold at the venue. A collaboration cafe will also be held at “365cafe” on the venue’s 4th floor. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of “Space Battleship Yamato” while enjoying special menus inspired by the work and dishes and drinks based on famous scenes.
Furthermore, a Yamato fair will be held at the Kinokuniya Bookstore on the same floor as the exhibition hall. The fair will feature a collection of Yamato-related books and will accept reservations for books to be released as part of the 50th-anniversary project. Other events for visitors to enjoy Yamato are planned within Seibu Shibuya during the exhibition period. Details will be announced on the official website at a later date, so please look forward to further information.

Japanese “anime” began with “Space Battleship Yamato,” which was broadcast on October 6, 1974, half a century ago.
If I hadn’t encountered the epoch-making work “Space Battleship Yamato” at that time, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
With deep gratitude and respect for “Yamato,” which has had a tremendous impact on my life, and with the desire to repay my debt, I would like to preserve as much of the existing materials of “Space Battleship Yamato” as possible for future generations.
I hope this Complete Record Exhibition will allow more people to see, learn, and engrave the emotions they feel in their hearts, sharing it widely throughout the world.
We will kick things off this March in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Thank you.
