The “Highschool Animetion Competition” (abbreviated as HAC2020), an animation competition for high school students, held its judging and awards ceremony on March 14, 2021. The inaugural Grand Prix went to “LAST BIT OF LIFE” by Yagi Tsumugi
of Tokyo Metropolitan Senior High School of Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Classical Music.

The awards ceremony was held at Suginami Kaikan in Tokyo, which houses the Suginami Animation Museum of Tokyo Polytechnic University, with Okuda Seiji, Kazui Hiroko, Morita Hiroyuki, and Ito Yuichi in attendance as judges.

Due to the effects of the new coronavirus, a number of students were absent from the event, but despite the situation, more students attended than expected, and after the awards ceremony, the judges held a teach-in and a question and answer session with the participating students, and the event went well over time.

The winner of the Grand Prix was “Last Bit of Life,” a stop motion and charcoal animation film. It depicted the story of dogs placed in an animal shelter, and the judges were moved to tears.

The video of the “HAC2020” award ceremony and the winning works are now available on the official website.
