The “Rascal” series is based on a popular light novel by Kamoshida Hajime, which has sold more than 2.5 million copies in total. Set in Fujisawa, a town surrounded by the sky and the sea, it is a heartwarming “adolescent fantasy” filled with irreplaceable “normal” things. The TV series “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai” began airing in October 2018, and the movie version “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl” was released in June 2019.
The new anime, “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out” was announced for production in September 2022, along with “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Girl with a Leather Backpack”. The story will be the conclusion of the “High School Arc” and will be directed by Masui Soichi, with screenplay by Yokotani Masahiro, character design by Tamura Satomi, and production by CloverWorks, all staff from the previous work.
The trailer and theme song for the film have now been unveiled. The trailer shows Kaede taking the high school entrance exam and Sakuta and his friends supporting him in his studies. Even though her body is scarred by puberty syndrome, she tries her best to go to “the same high school as her brother,” but it is also the dream of another “Kaede”. The ending theme song from the TV series, “Fukashigi No Karte”, is performed in the “Kaede” version.
To commemorate the release of “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out”, a special screening of the previous film “Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl” will be held on May 28. A talk event with Ishikawa Kaito, Seto Asami, and Kubo Yurika will be held at United Cinemas Toyosu, and screenings will also be held at 109 Cinemas Shonan, 109 Cinemas Nagoya, and T-Joy Umeda.
