The first anime adaptation of Asano Inio work “Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction” has been announced!
The anime adaptation of the manga “Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction” (Shorts for “Dededede”) by Asano Inio has been announced. This is the first anime adaptation of Asano Inio’s work and Asano’s comments has been released together with an original illustration. Also, a special footage on the anime production site has been released as well.
“Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction” is a dystopia youth story of the young girls that started serialized on “Big Comic Spirits” in 2014. The story takes place in a world that is facing a threat from the “Invaders” that appeared suddenly, and it revolves around the young girls spending their plain daily live that had drastic changes.
This work has won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category in 2021 and an Excellence Award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2022. This is the first anime adaptation of Asano Inio’s work, who had produced various popular works, such as the trending movie adaptation “Solanin” and “Goodnight Punpun” that has more than 3 million copies in circulation. This announcement was made when the series has ended as the final chapter was released “Big Comic Spirits” Issue 13 (February 28, 2022), and the latest and final volume, volume 12 will be released on March 30.
The animation production is handled by Production +h., known for handling the latest work of director Iso Mitsuo, “The Orbital Children”. Along with the anime adaptation announcement, the comments and original illustration by the original author Asano Inio have been released together with a special footage that depicts the discussion between Asano and the staff of Production +h. at the anime production site.

It’s the anime adaptation of “Dededede”. Throughout the 8 years of the serialization, it seems the society is experiencing major changes, but I take pride in leaving the important and universal matters in this work that will never change no matter how much time passes. There isn’t much I can talk about the story as the manga had covered everything, but please experience the complex yet pure world of “Dededede” through Kadode and Ontan. “Dededede” will never end. Also, Kadode and Ontan are the “absolute”.
