From “Sumikko Gurashi” comes a shogi game with original rules that both children and adults can play together, supervised by an active female shogi player. It is currently on sale at the “Kadokawa Store” and other stores.
“Sumikko Gurashi” is a character of San-X. Based on the theme of “When I’m in a corner, I feel calm for some reason”, the characters are a bit negative but have their own unique personalities.
The worldview of the characters attracts not only children but also adults, and the first animated film “Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: The Unexpected Picture Book and the Secret Child” was released in 2019. In addition, the second animated film “Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: The Magical Child Of The Blue Moonlit Night” will be released in November 2021.
This product, “Sumikko Gurashi Shogi”, is a Shogi set that allows you to get familiar with Shogi while moving the cute Sumikko Gurashi pieces. Kitao Madoka, a female professional Shogi player, has devised the rules of the game, and with the unique “Sumikko Gurashi” way of playing, such as “you win if you go in a corner”, you can enjoy learning the basics of shogi.
Each piece has a “sign” that shows you at a glance how to play each role, so even if you’ve never played shogi before, you can enjoy it without worry.
There are two types of rules for two-player games: “Easy”, which uses only half of the board (3 x 5 squares), and “Standard”, which uses 5 x 5 squares. The original rule of the game is that the player starts the game with any number of squares selected and flipped over (flipped over squares are turned face up when it is the player’s turn).
In the full-scale game, you can also use “Omamori” pieces to protect your own pieces, allowing you to enjoy the game elements while challenging yourself to a serious battle. The game also includes a four-player team game and several mini-games.
