The first film adaptation of the TV anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen”, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”, will be released on December 24, 2021. Since the announcement of the film adaptation, there has been a lot of interest in “who will be voicing over” the main character of the film, Okkotsu Yuta, and this time, it has been revealed.

This work is serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” (published by Shueisha), a very popular manga series that has sold over 50 million copies (as of June 4, 2021).

The main character of the movie is Okkotsu Yuta, who lost his childhood friend Rika, whom he promised to marry, in front of him in a car accident and became possessed by her.
The curse of Rika’s immense power hurts everyone around him. He has avoided relationships with people for most of his life, but when he meets Gojo Satoru, a teacher at Jujutsu High School, he vows to break the Rika’s curse.

Okkotsu Yuta will be played by Ogata Megumi, who has played neutral characters, those with two sides, and those with strong personalities, such as Kurama/Minamino Shuichi in “YuYu Hakusho”, Ikari Shinji, the main character in the “Evangelion” series, and Sailor Uranus/ Tenou Haruka in the “Sailor Moon” series.

The author of the original work, Akutami Gege, envisioned Okkotsu as “neutral, soft, and gentle, with large swings and drops of emotion,” and Ogata Megumi was mentioned as an example of an actor who would be close to that image. The director of the film, Park Sunghoo, and the anime staff unanimously agreed on this decision.

In addition, the character voice of Okkotsu Yuta that has been released for the first time was unveiled in this special report. Okkotsu Yuta, who vows to break the curse on Rika, who has become a curse itself, and Rika, who was only depicted in the back of the picture in the teaser visual, appeared on the screen.
After the recording of this special report, Ogata herself commented, “I hope to create my own persona of Okkotsu Yuta with the help of the team and with all my heart, while keeping the original image in mind. I’ll see you at theaters on December 24.”

The movie “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” is scheduled to be released on December 24, the day “Hyakki Yakou” is scheduled to take place.

I’m Megumi Ogata, and am honored to be assigned to voice over Okkotsu Yuta, this time. I was really surprised when I got the offer!
Me? For the big role? Of the big name, Jujutsu Kaisen…!?

I got confused, but I read the original work, and it was so interesting that I read all of it at once, from volume 0 to the latest volume, plus I even watched the whole anime lol After watching it, I was amazed. The character is fascinating but complex. How could I express him…?

Before I could even think about it, I was asked to record a “special report”! I had to start off the difficult task, “expressing Okkotsu Yuta with the first one word”, but I was able to meet all the main staff members and reach a consensus (which is difficult to do due to the current situation with coronavirus), so I thought to myself that I could be a little more relaxed for the actual recording lol

I hope to create my own persona of Okkotsu Yuta with the help of the team and with all my heart, while keeping the original image in mind.

I have always pictured Okkotsu Yuta as “neutral, with softness and gentleness, but also with big swings and drops of emotion,” so I thought it’s a perfect fit when Ogata Megumi was assigned.
