February 2 is ‘the day of pigtails’.

February 2 has two ‘2s’, meaning twin, and the anniversary was established.

Many characters appearing in anime or games have pigtails, or twin bunches on opposite sides of the head. You will come up with multiple characters.

So, here at Anime!Anime!, we had conducted a reader survey ‘Which character comes to mind when you think of pigtails?’. During the survey period from January 17 to January 24, a total of 197 responses were received. For the gender ratio, the females are the majority with about 60% while the males are about 40%. For the age distribution, about 50% are from minors while 30% are from those in their twenties.

■Her waving hair is beautiful! From idols to fighters were ranked
1st place
1st place went to Yazawa Nico from “Love Live!”. The support rating is about 10%.
Black hair with pigtails and red ribbon is the characteristic of Yazawa Nico. The comments received were, ‘Nico-chan advances straight on the idol life, so pigtails look really nice on her!’, ‘Her pigtails waving with her catchphrase “Nico Nico Nii!” is cute’, and ‘It is the first pigtails I saw in my life’. She is very popular among female readers, and her performances left some impressions.

2nd place
2nd place went to Tsukino Usagi from “Sailor Moon”. The support rating is about 5%.

Tsukino Usagi’s characteristics are pigtails with small bunches at a higher position, which are cute. The comments received wereare, ‘Chignon pigtails look even better with blonde hair, and they make her look very girly. Many people must have done the same hair style’, and ‘She came up first in my mind when I heard pigtails. I have been familiar with the style since I was a child’. Many readers in their twenties or thirties voted for her.

3rd place
3rd place went to Nakano Azusa from “K-On!”. The support rating is about 4%.

Nakano Azusa also known as Azu-nyan looks nice with her long pigtails. The comments received include ‘She looks naturally good with pigtails. Imouto-character and pigtails are the best combination’. She is the youngest among the high school girls’ band and after-school teatime members, which also enhances the charm of her pigtails.

‘She usually makes her beautiful hair into thin pigtails. Her curly pigtails swaying while fighting as a Pretty Cure is impressive! Also, she released 2nd single “Twintail no Mahou” in the anime’.
For Akagi Anna from “Kiratto Pri☆Chan”.
‘Curly pigtails are her characteristics. She is a childish girl. She is always arguing with Moegi Emo, who also has pigtails, but their song “Victory! Twintails” is wonderful’. As above, some comments referred to songs about pigtails.

In this survey multiple characters, who occasionally show their pigtails in a good way by touching their hair or waving while dancing or fighting, have been ranked. Some characters that sometimes show their pigtails like Yagyu Kyubei from “Gintama” have also received some votes.
