“Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: Tobidasu Ehon to Himutsu no Ko” was a big hit as it has attracted 1.22 million viewers and the 2nd “Sumikko Gurashi” movie has been decided. The celebration illustration by the original author, Yokomizo Yuri has been revealed.
“Sumikko Gurashi” is a slightly negative yet unique character, like the “Shirokuma” who is sensitive to cold; “Penguin?” who lacks confidence; an uneaten (?) “Tonkatsu”; a shy “Neko”; and “Tokage,” who is hiding his nature, that has won an award in the grand prix of “Nihon Character Taisho 2019” (Japan Character Award 2019).
Their debut on the big screen “Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: Tobidasu Ehon to Himutsu no Ko” has received support from people of all ages and genders as it has caused a storm in the social media as “a family oriented anime work that will make not only children but adults to cry “.
It was a big hit as it ranked in the first place in term of satisfaction in “Yahoo! Movie”, first place in “Filmarks First Release Day Satisfaction Ranking”, first place in “Pia Movie First Release Day Satisfaction”, and it has also recorded a total of 1.22 million viewers.
This storm has also spread to oversea as it was released sequentially to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand in summer 2020. Especially for Taiwan as it has occupied 47% share of the Taiwan nationwide theatres in the first weekend and has taken the first place. Despite the threat of Covid-19, it was still released and it took the 2nd place in term of the Japanese movie that were released this year where the first place is “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train”. It currently has a long screening period.
As the movie was decided to be released in Singapore in November 19 and the release in other Southeast Asia countries are being scheduled sequentially.
The announcement on the 2nd “Sumikko Gurashi” movie was made in November 8, 2020 as part of the 1st anniversary of “Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: Tobidasu Ehon to Himutsu no Ko” since its release.
Along with the announcement, the original author Yokomizo Yuri’s celebration illustration has been revealed. The illustration of the Sumikkos celebrating lively on the announcement of the 2nd movie is filled with a slight warmness.
