September 9th is 「First Aid Day」/「救急の日」(Kyu Kyu no Hi)

The 「Kyu（9）Kyu（9）」pun was started back in 1982.
It is a day made to allow people to understand and recognize the hard work of emergency services and emergency medical care better, and to enhance the morale of emergency medical personnel.

Characters that are related to medical care also appear a lot in various anime. Most of those characters are doctors. Among those doctors, some are able to cure all kinds of illness or injury with their god-like hands, or some that are close to being a quack doctor. Even among those doctors, who is the most famous one, I wonder.

So, Anime! Anime! made a survey asking readers 「Who comes to your mind when you think of doctor characters in anime？」. From August 25th till September 1st, 142 responses were gathered.
The male-female ratio is about 35 percent for men and about 65 percent for women, with more responses from women. The age group was about 50% for those under 19 years old and about 30% for those in their 20s, mainly young people.

■The top seat goes to an Unlicensed Doctor from Black Jack！
1st place goes to Black Jack from 『Black Jack』. The approval rate was about 23%.
With comments like「When it comes to doctors, I can imagine Black Jack! I can’t imagine anyone having ability better than his. The way he just do things however and whenever he wants is just very cool!!」,「Even though he’s an unlicensed doctor, he still can heal all kinds of illness. He’s amazing and cool」and 「Speaking of the genius doctor, I can’t think of anyone eles but Black Jack!」.

『Black Jack』by Osamu Tezuka had been adapted into all kinds of media entertainment such as an OVA, a movie and a TV Anime. The anime depicting the early days of Black Jack 『Young Black Jack』that was broadcast back in 2015 and his appearance in 『Late Night Genius Bakapon』back in 2018 is probably what raised its popularity taking over the top seat.

2nd place goes to Tony Tony Chopper from 『One Piece』and Akiko Yosano from 『Bungou Stray Dogs』both with the same number of votes. The approval rate was about 10%.
Comments for Chopper like 「He’s usually very cute, and he’s also very reliable when it comes to healing one of his comrades」and「Even after experiencing a tragic past、he’s still a kind and gentle doctor that can’t be found anywhere else」.
There are some doctors in 『One Piece』, along with Chopper several other doctors were also included in the rankings such as Dr. Hiluluk, Dr. Kureha and Trafalgar Law.

Akiko Yosano from 『Bungou Stray Dogs』is a character that wields a strange ability to heal injuries, with comments praising her like 「Because she’s an amazing doctor that can heal even heal a nearly dead person」and「「She can’t heal someone someone’s heavy injury normally, instead she needs to dismantle patient body over and over again. Her colleagues with an endless pain are really withstand.」 Popular opinion from women like「Because she’s sometimes awkward, sometimes cool and kind, and values the life of others」

Comments for Trafalgar Law from 『One Piece』like「Because he has nicknames like the surgeon of death。I want to be cured by someone handsome like him！」and「Because he can cure all kinds of injury with the Ope Ope Fruit’s ability」.
Comment for Sakezou Sato from 『Space Battleship Yamato』, 「Its refreshing to see a doctor on a space battleship in a Sci-Fi anime、I like how he’s someone who likes liquor and usually drinks with the Robot Analyzer」.

Comment for Nagamasa Midori from 『Aoharu×Kikanjuu』like「I like the personality gap between when he’s playing a survival game and when he’s doing a check-up for children as a pedriatrician 。I also like how he treats Mo-chan in a sadistic way」
Toushirou Yagen from the 「Touken Ranbu」series with comment like 「He’s more of a pharmacist than a doctor though、I love the how he tries his best to modify the medications for everyone’s sake, and the fact even though he looks young he’s those big brother type that pulls everyone together！」

In this survey, there were surprisingly fewer votes for characters who actually have medical licenses, and characters with the special ability to heal wounds were much more conspicuous. Probably because people yearn for healing abilities that transcends human understanding. Stay tune for the next page, where all the rankings are recorded!
