September 5th is 「National Honor Award Day」.

The first National Honor Award was awarded on the same day in 1977 to honor Sadaharu Oh, a professional baseball player who achieved a homerun world record. The National Honor Award is said to「 Honor those who are greatly respected by the people and has made a remarkable achievements giving bright hope to society」. If you were to award it to an anime character, who would it be?

And because of that Anime! Anime! made a survey asking viewers 「Which anime character would you like to give the National Honor Award to?」continuing from last year. Within the survey period which was from August 19 till August 26th, 581 rsponses were gathered.
The male / female ratio is about 17% for men and 83% for women. There were votes from a wide range of age groups, about 25% under 19 years old, about 35% in their 20s, about 25% in their 30s.

■Gathered National Anime Characters ！

1st place goes to Amuro Tooru from 『Detective Conan』.The approval rating is about 46%, which is a significant increase from the 6th place last year.
He who belongs to the public security received comments like 「He protects the security of Japan while living in ways that ordinary people cannot do, such as investigating black organizations, conducting activities as public security police, and living with several alternate names for intel gathering.」 and 「The life-threatening car action scene from『Zero the Enforcer』。I’m entranced by his will to protect the country！」praising his patriotism for his country. Memorable comment like「To be able to say“My lover… is this country！”When being asked whether or not he has a lover, only Furuya will answer like that」was also received.

2nd place goes to Edogawa Conan from 『Detective Conan』.
The approval rate was about 8%, which was about the same as last year.
With reasons like「I was thrilled to see him resolving countless difficult cases with his impeccable reasoning for 23 years ever since it started broadcasting back in 1996」and「Solving various cases from bombings cases to terrorist cases protecting the the lives of many, Conan is a huge contributor to the safety of Japan」. Comment supporting his acts like「The fact that he just tries to saves everyone from people that are important to him to random strangers is something worth respecting」was also received.

3rd place goes to Amuro Ray from 『Mobile Suit Gundam』and Monkey・D・Luffy from 『One Piece』.The approval rate was about 4%. Comments for Amuro like「I have a great impression of a young boy slowly growing up into a man」and 「He’s the main foundation for Gundam’s fame。Why wouldn’t I choose him！」

For Luffy there are comments like「He gave us thrilling and exciting moments for the past 20 years.」 and「I was saved by how he always aimed for one big goal and dashes straight foward.」concluding the long series protagonists with the same voting.

Son Goku from 『Dragon Ball』 with comments like「A famous character not only loved by the Japanese but also by other foreign countries」and「The voice actor loved by people for such a long time is a legend」.
Fukuda Sazae from 『Sazae-san』with comments like「To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the anime。While after many generations, the voice actor still has not been changed since 50 years ago, and is the hero who has deserves a national position in animation」

Anpanman from 『Anpanman』with comments like 「A kind and hardworking character that gives big smiles and courage to people . I don’t think there’s any child that doesn’t know about Anpanman」
Lupin the Third from 『Lupin the Third』with comments such as 「A hero loved by many people even transcending generation. Moreover I think awarding a thief with the National Honor Award will be great」.
