Kyoto Animation will release its first new anime in six years, “CITY THE ANIMATION”, based on the manga by “Nichijou” creator Arawi Keiichi, in 2025. Along with the announcement, a teaser visual has been unveiled, with voice cast members including Komatsu Mikako, Toyosaki Aki, and Ishikawa Yui.
The original work for “CITY THE ANIMATION” is the girls’ run comedy “CITY”, created by Arawi Keiichi, who is also known for “Nichijou”. The manga was serialized in “Morning” from 2016 to 2021. It portrays the lives of slightly eccentric people living in an ordinary “CITY,” focusing on characters such as broke college student Nagumo Midori, Niikura, and Wako. The anime is directed by Ishidate Taichi, known for works like “Beyond the Boundary” and “Violet Evergarden”.
The anime adaptation was revealed during the “Kyoto Animation 2025 New Works Presentation,” streamed on their official YouTube channel. The archived video is available for viewing. The teaser visual conveys the fun, toy-box-like nature of the series. The main characters’ voice cast has been announced: Komatsu Mikako as Nagumo Midori, Toyosaki Aki as Niikura, and Ishikawa Yui as Wako. A teaser PV, featuring a playful mix of live-action and animation, highlights the series’ charm.
To celebrate the anime announcement, Kodansha’s manga app “Comic DAYS” is offering a limited-time free release of the original “CITY” manga, with the first 10 chapters available until September 27 at 11:59 p.m. Don’t miss this chance to dive into the world of “CITY”.
Additionally, the anime’s official website, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok accounts have launched. Comments from Arawi Keiichi and director Ishidate Taichi have been shared, and a follow-and-repost campaign on X is giving away teaser posters to lucky participants. Stay tuned for more updates on “CITY THE ANIMATION”.
