“Sanrio” Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition Announced! Featuring the Largest Display of Merchandise Ever and Limited Edition Tote Bag Tickets

An exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of Sanrio’s popular character, Hello Kitty, titled “Hello Kitty Exhibition – As I Change, Kitty Changes Too,” has been announced. The exhibition will open on Hello Kitty’s birthday, November 1st, at the Tokyo National Museum’s Hyokeikan. Limited edition tickets with a tote bag will go on sale starting July 1st.

Hello Kitty, celebrating half a century since her debut, now has merchandise in over 130 countries and regions. She has always valued her relationships with friends around the world, spreading the message of “everyone get along” by saying “hello” to each new friend.

The upcoming “Hello Kitty Exhibition – As I Change, Kitty Changes Too” explores the 50 years of “Kitty and I,” offering a new way to uncover Hello Kitty’s unique charm.

The venue will feature various themed exhibition areas, including the largest display of Hello Kitty merchandise ever. Additionally, there will be collaborations with distinctive artists, original video content, photo spots, and much more.

Advance tickets will be available from 12:00 PM on July 1 through “Ticket Pia.” Fans shouldn’t miss the limited edition tickets that come with an original tote bag featuring Hello Kitty peeking out from a paper bag with the exhibition’s key visual.

The Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Exhibition will be held at the Tokyo National Museum’s Hyokeikan from November 1, Hello Kitty’s birthday. For more details, visit the official website.

Location: Tokyo National Museum Hyokeikan (13-9 Ueno Park, Taito-ku, Tokyo)
Dates: November 1, 2024 (Fri) to February 24, 2025 (Mon, public holiday)
Hours: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM; Fridays and Saturdays until 7:00 PM (last admission 30 minutes before closing)
Closed: Mondays (open if Monday is a holiday, closed the following day). Closed on December 17 (Tue), December 26 (Thu) – January 1, 2025 (Wed). Hyokeikan only open on December 24 (Tue) and December 25 (Wed).
Admission Fees:
– General: 2,000 yen (1,800 yen advance purchase)
– University/Technical School Students: 1,800 yen (1,600 yen advance purchase)
– Middle/High School Students: 1,600 yen (1,400 yen advance purchase)
– Elementary School Students: 1,000 yen (800 yen advance purchase)
Ticket Sales: Starts at 12:00 pm on July 1, 2024 (Mon)
– Limited edition tote bag ticket: 3,000 yen (limited quantity, available only through Ticket Pia, no student discount)
The original tote bag features a cute design of Hello Kitty peeking from a paper bag with the exhibition’s key visual.
Prices include tax. Prices in parentheses are for advance tickets, on sale until October 31 (Thu).
Preschool children, disabled visitors, and one caregiver are admitted free with a disability ID.
Admission tickets also allow entry to the regular exhibitions on the same day, provided they are open.
