On June 8, 2024, it was announced on the official X account that a new project for the anime “Kaiju No. 8” will launch.
“Kaiju No. 8” is based on the manga series currently serialized in “Shonen Jump+” (published by Shueisha). The TV anime adaptation began airing on April 13, 2024. The story follows Hibino Kafka, who works for a kaiju cleanup company. After being transformed into a powerful kaiju by a mysterious small kaiju, he is named “Kaiju No. 8”. Despite being hunted by the Japanese government, Kafka refuses to give up on his dream of joining the Defense Force and continues to fight against the kaiju disasters.
In Episode 9, titled “Raid on Tachikawa Base”, which aired on June 8, a group of kaiju suddenly attacks the Tachikawa Base while Ashiro Mina is absent, as the search for the human-disguised “Kaiju No.9” continues. The leader of the winged dragon-type kaiju, which usually do not form groups, is revealed to be a new “Daikaiju” with intelligence and the ability to understand human language. As if enjoying the battle, this monster sets its sights on the strongest member of the force present, Hoshina Soshiro.
After the broadcast, an announcement was made on the official X account, stating, “Anime ‘Kaiju No. 8’ new project reveal on June 15 (Saturday) after the broadcast of Episode 10 at 11:00 PM.” Along with this, an official X account and website for the new project were launched.. A countdown has also started on the website.
In response, many fans expressed their excitement online, with comments such as “Is a movie coming out!?” “I’m excited to find out what it is,” and “I can’t wait for next week.” Due to the game controller emoji in the announcement, some speculated, “Is it a game adaptation!?” “Maybe a mobile game?” and “Could it be a fighting game?”
