“Suzuki Toshio and Ghibli Exhibition” Bookshelves with 8,800 books and fortunes of Yubaba and Zeniba! Held at Fukuoka City Museum from June.

“’Suzuki Toshio and Ghibli Exhibition’ We meet again!” focusing on Suzuki Toshio, producer of Studio Ghibli, will be held at the Fukuoka City Museum from June 9, 2023. The exhibition will feature valuable materials, project proposals, and three-dimensional models.

Suzuki Toshio participated in the launch of the magazine “Animage” in 1978. While serving as deputy editor and editor-in-chief, he has also been involved in film production, working on Miyazaki Hayao’s “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” and Takahata Isao’s “Grave of the Fireflies”.

He also participated in the establishment of Studio Ghibli and became a full-time employee, producing all theatrical films such as “Princess Mononoke” and “Spirited Away” as well as the Mitaka no Mori Ghibli Museum. He is currently producing Miyazaki Hayao’s latest film, “How Do You Live,” scheduled for release on July 14, 2023.

The “Suzuki Toshio and Ghibli Exhibition” was held in 2019 at the Kanda Myojin Hall in Tokyo and the Huis Ten Bosch Museum in Nagasaki as “an exhibition where you can learn the secrets of Studio Ghibli that you have never known”. After that, with more exhibits and an upgraded version of the exhibition, for the first time in three years “’Suzuki Toshio and Ghibli Exhibition’ We meet again!” will be held, traveling to Kyoto and Tokyo. Currently, the Iwate exhibition is being held until May 24, and the Fukuoka exhibition will open on June 9.

There are many attractions such as an exhibition of Suzuki Toshio ‘s bookshelf with approximately 8,800 books, a “Yubaba and Zeniba ‘Love and Good Luck’ omikuji” where a 3-meter-tall Yubaba and Zeniba welcome you, and “Large, medium and small Totoro photo spots” where you can take pictures in the world of his works by recreating famous scenes. There are many things to see and do.

In the “Love and Good Luck” omikuji, you can get a fortune with Suzuki Toshio’s “Special Words” printed on it.

There will be tapestries of famous scenes from seven films, including “Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea,” “Princess Mononoke,” “My Neighbor Totoro,” “Laputa: Castle in the Sky,” “Spirited Away,” “Porco Rosso,” and “The Wind Rises,” as well as a “hanging letter” area with giant objects d’art featuring famous lines from the films. Visitors can enjoy the work of Studio Ghibli and Suzuki Toshio at various locations in the exhibition hall.

The “Suzuki Toshio and Ghibli Exhibition” will be held from June 9 to August 31 (closed on Mondays). Advance tickets are available for this exhibition, including the “Midsummer Night’s Makurakura Museum Ticket,” a special after-five discount ticket that can be used from 5:00 p.m. onward, and the “Fukuoka Only: Hakataori Original Bookmark,” which includes an original bookmark made in Hakata-ori fabric! “Ticket with Hakataori original goods” can be purchased at Lawson Ticket from May 8, 10:00AM.
