Currently being screened, the animated film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train” as of Nov. 23, 2020, has grossed approximately 25.9 billion JPYyen in box-office revenue. It has surpassed “Frozen” and “Your Name” reaching the 3rd place on the raking of highest- grossing films premiered in Japan.
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” is originally a Japanese dark fantasy manga by Gotoge Koyoharu serialized at the “Weekly Shonen Jump” from 2016 to 2020.
The movie plot centers on the “MugenInfinity Train” story arc of the series and is the sequel of the 26-episode TV anime, which was broadcasted from Apr. to Sep. 2020, focusing on the coming up of the protagonist Kamado Tanjiro.
During its 6th week, the film recorded the following figures:
Nov. 21, 314,726 ticket sales, earning 439.6 million JPYyen.
Nov. 22, 433,315 ticket sales, earning 592.7 million JPYyen.
Nov. 23, 357,741 ticket sales, earning 460.1 million JPYyen.
So far the cumulative from 414 Japanese theaters (38 IMAX locations included) totaled 25,917,043,800 JPYyen. The total amount of sold tickets is 19,397,587.
Demon Slayer is now 3rdthird highest-earning film in Japan, sitting above the movies “Your Name”(2016), with a 25 billion JPYyen revenue and “Frozen”(2014), with a 25.5 billion JPYyen revenue.
