“Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -” is the theatrical version of Netflix's original anime series “Japan Sinks 2020”, where the restructured and 5.1ch surround sound is handled by director Yuasa Masaaki, and it will be released nationwide on Nov. 13. The poster's visual and the comments from director Yuasa Masaaki was revealed as well.
“Japan Sinks 2020” is the first anime adaptation of the popular same name novel of Komatsu Sakyou, the famous novelist in Japan Science Fiction industry. While maintaining the theme “The people's identity that was lost along with the country” of the original work that had been published in 1973, the story takes place in Japan in Japan on 2020 and it used a daring setting, which shows the unforeseen disaster from the perspective of a normal family.
It used the fantasy-like element of the anime and an extremely calm perspective that depicts the actual situation that we are facing in the real world such as the grand disaster that appear out of nowhere, races and nationality, various people from different generation and holding different thoughts, and also the internet culture.
It becomes a “work that must be told” as it reflects the sensibility of the audience. However, after the broadcast, there are people who agreed and disagreed on this work in the SNS and it had taken the first place in the nationwide broadcast ranking for few continuous days.
“Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -“, that was decided to be released nationwide, is a restructered of all the ten broadcasted episode, which is filled with various modern world problems. Director Yuasa Masaaki will squeeze the information into a single movie, and the sinkage of Japan in the Reiwa period will surely be something new in terms of the theme and time setting.
Toward the sinkage of Japan, where will the people head to, and how will we respond toward that? Do check out the “story of reality and resuscitation” at the screen, about the people who are pushing toward the ultimate answer without any choice to the future that is connected to their life.
In the poster's visual, it depicts the grand scale of the sunrise at the sunken Japan with Mt. Fuji at the back unlike the visual of the normal Mutou families that are struggling during the disaster, which was the focus during the TV broadcast.
The grand theme of “the hope that arises after the loss of Japan” can be felt after watching all the episode of the TV broadcast.
Regarding “Japan Sinks 2020 Theatrical Edition – Shizumanuki Bow -“, Director Yuasa Masaaki commented, “I felt that I had betrayed by the audiences and this is also a difficult obstacle that I need to overcome just like the character from this work. Do check it out at the theatre.”
Will this be the answer toward those who agreed and disagreed that appeared during the broadcast and will there more argument coming out after this? Do check out it at the theatre yourselves.

The audio made by 5.1ch during the dubbing of episode 1 came out good, so I had thought that it would be a waste if this was not seen in a good environment. When the broadcast started, we had received a lot of criticism that arises because most of the audiences couldn't figure out the hidden meaning behind it. So, I felt that I had betrayed by the audiences and this is also a difficult obstacle that I need to overcome just like the character from this work. Do check it out at the theatre.
